Hello, I need some advice.

I just decided to take up paintballing and was all set to buy a tippmann 98c, I just think that it would be a good choice for an 'entry level' marker, that I can customize latter. I could get it here for about $140 US.

But then I found a used four year old angel with a dye boomstick. It's complete, except for a missing hopper, for $800 Canadian (about $500 US, I guess). It's nothing special to look at, just black. The previous owner, who's given up the sport, used it alot, but she seems like she's in good condition, but I havn't run any paint though it.

So, if she is in good condition, is it a good deal?

i'd rather shoot an angel with practice crapo paint, even if the angel was a 97 completly stock V6 totally scrathced up, with the worst gas effiency ever, than use a tippman 98 ;)

Dude, have the guy send it to a tech to give it a look down, then if everything checks out then go for it.

OK, here's another question. It's my understanding that Angel LED's came in only semi-auto. This certainly is an LED (the big led on the back plate gives it away, but then thers's the free flying flash tank feed and, well ... you get the picture) but she's also got an LCD above the grip, and a round push button selector switch for semi, burst and auto fire modes. These are both on the left side, right about where the thumb rests.

What should I be thinking about that?

that does not sound like any Angel I've ever heard of...if it's an LED there is a switch on the right side of the marker which is the power switch, there is the blinking LED on the back plate, and then there is the charging plug on the back plate as well. The only way to access the board (which may or may not be semi only the LED's had a zip chip that allowed 4 different modes) is by removing the grip covers. The LCD screen above the grip would lead me to believe it's an Intimidator made by Bob Long.

There is a charge plug along with the led, as well as the on/off switch as you described, on the back plate, that exactly match the figures I found in the Angel LED manual here at Angel-owners. Other things like the very characteristic flash pipe feed pipe are visable as well.

Since posting last, I've seen a pick of a Zip, with the internal adjustments for rate of fire, so know I have an idea about board mods for the angel enough to say that this is neither zip-chip nor stock.

So ... I guess I'll have to buy a disposable camera and head into the city and see what I find, I'll make sure to have him pull the grip apart so I can eyeball the chip and tell you guys what I found.

Well guys I’m kinda embarrassed. Seems that I got some of my notes mixed up with what I remembered. She’s just a plain and simple Angel LED. And she works like a dream, I’m gonna go pick her up tomorrow.

well best of luck with your new purchase, you should probaly have it checked out by a tech, and make sure everything is tuned right, and you can rip on it for a long time to come...
