WDP has no official abbreviation, for the record.
1996 was the first year that the Angel made it to US shores imported by none other than Brass Eagle.

I don't think the angel would be what it is today if brass eagle hadn't sold it to WDP.

I highly doubt that Brass Eagle made the Angel, it was created and developed and made by WDP, as far as I am aware. Brass Eagle was just the US distributor.

Brass Eagle did not sell the Angel design to WDP..It was only marketed in the states by BE because they were (and still are) a HUGE company.
If im not mistaken a V6 is an led..the V6 simply stood for the 6 volt battery that ran the marker. So therefore, it was called the angel V6 which was equipped w/ an LED, so it is technically an LED and nothing more.
The original Angel prototype was scattered across a 5 foot table, and from there they had to take all those huge parts and make them small enough to fit inside the body (a company from Japan did the 14-way shrinkage..I forget the name of the company).
The Angel was named by some marketing guy for a big-time hard core metal band back in the early 80's. He was talking to the creator of the Angel back in 1995 (when the Angel was created) and said that the term 'Angel' would be a big thing in the next few years, so the creator of the marker decided to call it an Angel. Sure enough, there were MANY songs made about Angels (the spiritual being, not the gun..:P )
About the date..the Angel was created in 1994/1995, and the first working ones were released in the states sometime in 1996. They were marketed towards the high-end professional players originally, then the Angel became the gun to have and has remained at the top since.
I'll get all the names tomorrow and edit my post to reflect the 100% correct information.

In the book called "The Complete Guide to Paintball" they talk to the inventer of the Angel and how it came to be what it is today (LCD cauze its a "older" book) but it pretty much says what b4d_455_baller just wrote but its actually kinda interesting

That's possibly the ONLY good part of that book..lol....the author of that book stated that you should carry a small mirror with you onto the field to look around your bunker....W..O..W...

that book sucked, as do all pball book. I thought that brass eagle funded the first angels for WDP then kinda gave up hope, they thought they would own the industry with great plastic and cheap guns called talons....

nah..WDP was around before the creation of the Angel..they just used Brass Eagle as a marketing tool to get their marker introduced to the players in the states. Believe it or not, WDP hasn't always been a huge company with lots of cash laying around for marketing campaigns..
