so.... first time tearing the A1 all the way down.... forgot to pull the solenoid wire out before pulling out the spool.... and you can imagine what happened.

The wires broke so I soldered them and re-installed.

I turned the gun on and the noid clicked like normal for a while then kaput... nothing!

any ideas??

thanks

maybe you shorted the harness or something, take it out, check the leads. after soldering, using heat shrink will make the joint stronger. worse comes to worse, you may need a new noid

Yeah... I think it's a good solder... I ended up pulling off my electrical tape and trying the noid while monitoring the wires... still no go. :-( I see that they're like $95!! wow

I wonder if anyone has a used one?

Yeah im sure you can pick up a new one. Um... you used electrical tape for a solder splice. ouch. what kinda solder splice did you do? one thing that could have happened is the wire under the insulator could have broke due to wicking. What that is, is when you use to much solder and some of it flows under the insulator. this can cause the wire to snap under the insulator. Only way real good way to prevent this is by using Anti-Wicking twezzers. But they are like 40 bucks for one pair and arnt normally found in a hardware store. One meathood I learned in the service for this when you dont have them is get a nice twist on the lead portion of the wire and take a small pair of regular twezzers and grp as close to the insulator as you can and then tin you lead. If I can find the publication for the Navy 2m program ill post it here. If your a once in a while kinda soldering guy then it will be helpfull.

awesome, thanks. Yeah... the black tape was just because it's all I had around. I'm not sure what to do besides play around with it a bit more and if I can't get it, then order a new one. I see some websites have them for $80 instead of $95 but still spendy.

So just to make sure that this is the problem... (since I also just flashed 2.2) the board will not think it's firing or even switch the eyes off if the noid isn't clicking, correct?

eww that im not sure about. i guess one way to find that out would to be to write down your shot counter # and unplug the noid and turn the eyes off and fire it. and see if your shot counter goes up! one thing you can do is take the noid out of the gun, then plug it into the board from out side the marker. and plug the trigger while moving the wires to see if your wires are broke. normaly if they are broke inside the insulator you can get them to make contact by moving them around. What state are you located in?

well what I ended up doing yesterday as a last attempt before ordering one, was cutting and resoldering, and re-blacktaping. I ended up putting everything back together and getting it working! I guess i'm just lucky! I'm in WI by the way.

When I got everything back together, I had a pretty bad exhaust leak. I came to the conclusion that it's not sealing with the stem now from when I was trying to knock the valve out (in the wrong direction). I ordered a new exhaust valve, so when that comes in I should be set to rip!

well knocking it out the wrong way i wouldnt think would kill it. you just need to change the seals and reset. or are you saying you damaged the valve and the steam wont seal with it? And i was gonna say if you was close to me and couldnt get it to work i could take a look at it for you. Im always looking for projects.

well it actually doesn't go out the opposite way because that chamber is machined to stop the valve in the right spot... so I got a little too physical with it and gouged it a bit... so yes, the valve stem isn't sealing with the valve guide. I did try to take it out and polish it and what-not, but I couldn't completely fix it. It did have fresh seals on as well.

Ouch! I havent torn it down yet so i havent seen the stop. I just know you can punch it out with a swab!!! but ouch. well good luck. i couldnt find the publication. its a millitary publication. they use to have them just out on the web but now they dont. If anyone out there is in the military and works on aircraft if you can post NA 01-1A-23 that would be good. if not ill have to get one of my buddies still in the millitary to get it for me. But if you need info on how to solder just PM me.
