View Full Version : A1 doesnt seem that accurate

well the barrel that was perfect for the paint was .685 sooo since the paint was verry brittle i used .687 which was fine. My concern was accuracy should not be effected that much but in my case balls were curving a lot. How am i supposed to keep nice straight shots to get ppl out when my balls are hooking at the last second. Also my gun was chopping a lot using joy pressures and settings. Last thing, i know i still need to break my gun in the rest of the way but ive put near 3 cases through it and it still kicks. If anyone could give me suggestions to fix these things (accuracy being the main concern) that would be great. Thank you.

I understand you were using brittle paint, but what quality paint was it? Was it something like Marbs or Nightmare? Or was it some Premiums?
I would imagine that you chopping a lot would in turn effect the curve of the ball as well...just like when you see Rec players with a 98c chopping like a mad man, and not swabbing his barrel, of course his balls are going to curve.
Also, were they barrel breaks, or was it breach breaks? That might be a good place to start as to why you are chopping
I know that the A1 is supposed to be self cleaning, but if you are chopping as much as you say you are, that is probably a lot of paint for the marker to "self clean"
As for why you were chopping...did you check the detents? What kind of hopper were you using? If you have the old style detents, and were using a force fed hopper, your hopper might be putting a little too much pressure on the ball stack and since your detents might be blown, the bolt might be catching more than one ball
Also make sure to look inside the breach for anything catching, or possibly scratched...might be an indicator as to what the issue is...
As for the Joy settings..with all markers I have used, I look at Pro settings as more of a guideline than anything...not an end all be all setting....things are going to change for each marker, there is no reason to think that you can't fine tune your marker to perform better for you personally....
Just my 2 pennies thrown in there
Also, from what I have heard, it can take upwards of 20 cases to break in your reg and marker properly...this doesn't necessarily have to be actual shots with paintballs, but if you have some free time dry firing will work as well

You may want to check your ball detents. A broken or semi broken one would account for the breakage and accuracy problems. Mine has always been pretty darn near ball on ball, but if a ball detent is cracked it can affect that..especially if you chop and then leave a little residue in the barrel to affect flight or if a broken detent is putting an odd spin on the ball.

detents seem fine as i clean my gun after everyday. and it wasnt like ball on ball chopping it was like maybe 3 or 4 chops per hopper. some were barrel breaks and others were chops. As for the paint it came in a white box shell was green fill was white it was 45$ and just was brittle.

You know, it might just be §§§§ty paint...if you have the opportunity, I would buy a bag of decent paint...not some no name white box stuff, maybe some Marbs, or Evils or something and see if that helps....
Also, just because you clean the marker after every day of play doesnt mean you don't have crappy detents...the original version of detents that APS put out on the A1 were not so hot, so a different set was released....
Does it seem to happen more when you rip on the marker or just randomly?

"White Box" paint could be the answer right there. That is a mish mosh of extra balls from paint runs. Sometimes I can get a case that is great and other times its very inaccurate, brittle and often times quite dimpled. Doesn't take much to throw off the accuracy of a irregularly shaped ball filled with paint. Its a possible answer anyway..like I said earlier mine has always been very accurate and gentle on paint.

A good way to differ between chops and too much pressure on the ball stack (which sounds like your problem) would be to check if there are any paint shell bits in your breech...I am not 100% convinced that your bolt is chopping your paint...What type of loader are you using?
Also, accuracy has been something I have spent a lot of time considering myself...Too many factors to enumerate, but I'd say if you want the most accurate shot groups, check all of the factos in the above posts and USE QAULITY PAINT.....I know we all see ads of the a1 shooting crappy paint, but I think it's intended to show just that it can, doesn't mean the shots are accurate...
Try some premium paint and see how that goes.
And just so you know, 3-4 chops per hopper is WAY too many. You do have a problem. As others have said, it's most likely the paint, which you can test by testing a single bag or so of good paint. Past that that it's likely detents, past that it might actually be your marker.

id say pick up a pack of detents. all a1 owners should just have a set in their bag anyways along with breech seals.

well when i was talking about cleaning the marker i should have said that i take the gen 2 detents out and inspect them after i play, so i was just trying to say i know that they are in good condition. Also, im using a halo b with victory board. i generally use quality paint...the place i went to play at just didnt have great paint to play with. normally i shoot xball bronze or origin classic. Also it happens more when im just ripping on the trigger, but then again i always rip on the trigger so idk.
btw thanks for all the help guys

So lets recap here: (FYI for some reason I just thought of that show "House" when they can't figure out the disease and have to go back to the whiteboard to figure it out based on the symptoms haha )
1) Has Gen 2 Detents that are good to go
2) Happens with good AND bad paint
3) Both Barrel Breaks and Breach Breaks
4) Happens when ripping on trigger, but you always rip so not sure
5) Joy Settings and Pressures
6) Using Halo w/ V35
I am not sure to be honest...since you have only put 3 cases through it, could the reg still be breaking in and randomly spiking the pressure? I don't think it would spike enough to cause all of this but not sure...
Also, have you checked what your marker settings for paint is? If it is set for brittle paint etc etc....
Have you actually used the guages to make sure your lpr and everything is set ok?
Did it happen when you used the Xball Gold as well?
No problem on the help...I have just recently come into the Angel world and this forum has been a Godsend!

well i think im going to go out and shoot the xball bronze just to see if it chops. Once i get results i will report the results back here and we can do more trouble shooting. If i recall correctly when i was using xball bronze i only got a few barrel breaks and the chopping started when i was using the §§§§ty paint. so with that said i will go check. btw house is a fantastic show.

wasn't there a video of that JOY guy bragging on how his marker does not chop brittle frozen paint?

The joy guy you are reffering to is Max Lundqvist, he did a video last year..one "real" version and one "fake" were they messed with the tape so you could see they were only joking...Fun stuff!
As for the topic,
I have had the same problems sometimes, when shooting cold crappy paint, lots of breaks...
You've bought an expensive piece of hardware, use the best possible paint for it! :)
(But I can def. see there is an issue with money there somewhere..)

I am still wondering since he has only put 3 cases through it if maybe the pressures are spiking and since it was crappy paint to begin with, that might be the issue....
I had something similar to this with my Ton Ton Shocker....I bought some big ball paint at wal-mart (just for the hell of it haha), and had all kinds of problems with it, but when I went back to some decent quality Premiums, I was good 2 go.....
