would the frame hold up on an A1 with a custom made drop?

i thought i read somewhere that the dove tail wasnt designed to have a drop forward on it

It's not designed to "act" as a drop forward, i.e. you're not supposed to move the ASA forward or back to adjust tank position. It's supposed to be centered on the dovetail.

If you add a drop foward or a rail you must use the set screws provided with the drop to install on the marker. Look at the A1 pic thread for those that have added, aftermarket(non Angel) rails /dropfowards. Angel also makes a rail, and ASA with screws to replace the built in rail on the frame.
I am going to get a CP micro drop or a regular rail I have yet to decide.

well im a machinist so i can make anything i want from metal for free, i have access to CNCs and everything so i make all my own drops and everything then send them out to get anno'd
