why would you want to replace a rechargeable battery? Is there a problem with the current one? Is it not taking a charge?

I keep getting the "tab in" message when I try charging it.

The LCD light up (battery meter is completely empty), but it does so when I push the switch to the right, instead of the left.

Also, the board shows 0 shots, as opposed to the 1000ish that I was told were on it.

the tab in means you have to remove the pull key, or flip it on........make sure it displays safe on the screen before trying to charge it.....

Whats the pull key?

1. Flip the switch
2. LCD lights up, shows battery meter, and the mode, the rest is blank
3. in a few seconds, the backlight goes off

some lcds had a flip switch to turn it on and others have a key that was used to turn it on. But you already said that you had the problem when flicking the switch so you dont have to worry about the pull key.

so when you flip the switch to the on position plug the charger in and start the car what happens now?

when I pull the trigger, I get XXX-XXX where I can enter numbers,

sounds like you've either got a board that went bad, or you need to put a PIN number in

The board is new, and I dont know the PIN

Check all of your connections. This includes the 14-way, battery, and LCD Display.
