Just picked up a 24" 2.8 iMac w 4gigs of ram and 1 tb HD space, this thing is a monster. Everything runs flawlessly on it, have not had hangs/crashes like I was so used to with my PC. Aside from some lacking software, I am extremely happy with this comp, the picture editing, video editing and graphics rendering are fantastic.

Macs are awsome, they do not crash or freeze like PCs do. Macs are also ALOT easier to learn and use. But people do not want to take a day to figure out how a Mac works. They rather spend a life time learning a PC. As for VISTA, forget about it.

Yep and three times the price for EVERYTHING! One tenth the available software and you can connect and work with half the available sites. Just keep your PC clean with FREE virus software, spyware and run enough memory and all is right with the world, and yes VISTA does work.

I had been told all the horror stories and then ordered a new SONY VIAO that was supposed to come with XP, the fine print said it may come with upgrades. When it got here it had Vista on it, I was so pissed I called the company and complained loud enough they sent me XP Pro and the drivers on disk. But to my amazement it has been running everything, including connecting to my wireless network and printserver without a hitch, not even a stumble, not even an error. SOOO I can't complain and I have to write all my reports for work on the thing, I teach classes off it so it runs my power point stuff fine and runs my blackberry and medical software better than XP does. I have only had one software program not autoload and that was an American Heart Assn. thing that is old for teaching people to use and AED.
When and if I have a problem I will complain till then.....

I've been with windows since 3.5, even before when it was barely even a "windows" type program, they were great, never had a problem until I upgraded my last computer to Vista, half of the drivers did not work, most of my software was not compatible, and I got sick and tired of the same old "are you sure you want to do this, hit yes or cancel bullcrap" As far as your theory of Vista being great, think about this, windows xp was a flagship for microsoft, they even developed 2 or 3 service packs, word on the street from reliable sources is that microsoft is completely passing over making service packs in favor of redesigning a new operating system that will appeal to all the xp users that refuse to load vista, and all of those that have downgraded already. Did you know that vista blows so hard that microsoft will actually give you a free copy of xp to downgrade to? Now, if that does not confirm that there is a problem, I don't know what will. Check apple's stocks, their sales have skyrocketed since the launch of vista, because everyone knows it's better. As far as software, I haven't had any problem on my mac, i've obtained over $2000 worth of programs for FREE, no "connecting to internet to verify product key" you just put in a working key and bam...money in the bank. But if you like to spend hard earned money on binary code....be my guest.

oh, and did i mention, my iMac has an intel based chip in it, so anytime i want to run a program that is not supported by mac, i just fire up parallels desktop and run xp pro? Can your PC do that?

Bringing up Apple's stocks isn't a good idea cause you might want to check on them again if you haven't recently, and last I checked my pc boots windows just fine and I have no reason to boot the mac os cause my windows does everything I need it to do and I don't have to worry about compatability. If you didn't already know this Vista has already released a service pack to fix the most of the bugs that came in the original version.
Don't get me wrong I have nothing against macs, they have their purpose for multimedia editing abilities, but you pay more for a mac and if you aren't into mutlimedia editing, imo its a waste of money.

My intent was not to piss anyone off who likes their mac. If you like to spend your hard earned $$ on an overpriced computer go ahead, and I know those that have them love them. To me it's not NECESSARY so that money goes eleswhere. For instance now I am on my desktop, which is XP pro but has a 22" flat screen, dual SATA HD's, 8 Gig of RAM the nice vidio card, supports the wireless network in the house and runs 24/7 and has for nearly a year without a hitch. I built it myself and cost was UNDER a grand. That's right boys and girls AMD Athlon 64 X@ Dual Core @ a bit over 3 GHz, plenty of vid card and it runs everything I need it to run and it runs it fast.
The Vista Notebook was not what I ordered, I have the XP for it but like I said it's working, running Office, all my drivers loaded, it finds the network here at home and at the three stations at work, (all different configs) and connects. It connects at my mons house, at my brothers house at school. Do you get my point it's just not giving me any problems.
Yes I gutted a bunch of crap off it the day I got it and shut down a dozen un-needed processes but is that not the way of the world, to stick you with a bunch of crap you dont want or need. If you could build notebooks I could get around that problem.
Josh you referenced an HP notebook in another thread, my brother in law has one, it took me two weeks to gut all the crap they loaded on that POS before it would run at any speed, no wonder you had problems. IF you buy a comp at Best Buy or the mass mercants you end up with machines made from spare parts, what HP or Dell or whoever has left over from production runs or the end of model runs, just look up the model numbers, they are non standard. So you end up with a MB, HD vid card and Chip not necessarly meant to be in a system but they will work, then add a bunch of promo software because they used this discount CD/DVD burner and this modem and this comm card and this network card, see where I am going here. That is the root of 75% of the problems people have with store bought comps and is an advantage of the Mac.
My advise if you want a desktop build or have one built for you and if you want a laptop check what you want and order the machine you want from the mfg store or from a known source, yep you will pay a couple more $$ but will be happier in the end. I have been at this 20+ years and have learned a couple things in that time.

i build all my desktops.... well exept for the Compaq im on cuz i needed a comp after Vista failed me on my laptop....
what you do is contact Hp customer support, i went with the online route as i hate talking to people who can barely speak english. tell them you want the drivers for the computer you have for XP and they will list them out or you to dl. i did that on my 2 units as well as units for about 8 other people with various brand dell, compaq, hp ect.
half this §§§§ is easy to do.

This is true, Macs are more money, that's the price you pay when Mac finds problems with the os and rewrite it, Microsoft does not, they add patches over there existing software. This is why Apple is running Operating System 10 or X for short.
If money is a problem, you can go on ebay and pick up a G 3 Mac, like mine, for $50-$100. The you can update you software and upgrade the ram.

You get what you pay for. Even a cheapo $1100 imac is good enough for what most people need it for. I've been building my own pc's for about 8 years now, and have made some pretty sick pc's, but i'm over microsoft and their issues. I was a skeptic, hated macintosh because i though it was for yuppies and big graphic design execs, but since i switched, i couldn't be happier..PC's dont suck, vista does. I'm anxiously awating the answer to vista's nightmares, maybe they'll come out with something that will bring me back to their side, and the thousands of others that switched.
