View Full Version : Too much waste of air

I just put on my dye throttle tank a guerrila lp regulator so the marker would start shooting better and to NOT waste excessive air. I don't have the 2 test tools so I don't really know if the marker is fine or not. I just shoot 1 loader and 1 and a half pod, then the tank was empty. My field refills with scuba tanks and at 2000 the most. I just feel that the marker is wasting too much air. Any suggestions ? Another thing is that when I shoot the paintballs start going everywhere, up, down, left, right. I clean the pods, barrel, pballs, etc., what could be ?

What does the thing sound like? A cannon? Real quiet? Like a normally functioning gun? Sound can be a good indicator of how high or low your LPR is. Also what is your dwell at? And finally what size tank do you have and is 2000 all it's being filled to? Gotta know that to know how many pods you SHOULD be getting off of it.

It sound very loud when firing. My dwell is at 6.5 and I use a 45/4500 tank. 2000 it's the most, unfortunately.

Oh I forgot to ask about what it chronos in at, and do you have trouble getting it under speed or up to speed?

I don't have problems speeding up or down but in the chrono it jumps from 270, 280, 275, 282, etc.

Hmmm... I would expect if it was just your LPR being to high or to low that you'd have problems getting into chrono range. Sounds like you may have an actual problem other than your settings being really out of tune. My specialty isn't the A1, but with the info you've given someone else on here should be able to point to a certain o-ring or seal that probably needs replacing.

ok 1st, have you filled the tank and let it cool down then topped it off, thereby getting a "cold" fill? If you are just dumping air into it then the hot fill is not giving you the most air for you fill. Then as the marker is firing the expanding gas in the tank is cooling off and the pressure is dropping rapidly so you are not actually getting 200psi worth of shots. I have found that on my 68ci the diference between a hot and cold fill is almost 500psi, now on a 68/45 that isnt too bad, but if you are only getting a 2000 fill to begin with...yea.
For reference on a 68/45 hot fill to 4000psi i can run through 5pods and a hopper (Magna) and still have about 1300psi left.

Yeah, the dye tanks sucks, but I just change the tank reg to a guerrilla LP, right now I don't have cash to spend on a new tank so... anyway, didn't know about the hot and cold tank fill. Thanks for the info. I just fill my A1 directly from the tank so I guess that it is still hot when I shoot it. How could I fix this air deficiency problem ?

fill right after you get off the field, and then again right before you go back on. Take your tank cover off while you are waiting too, cools the tank off faster.
Oh and tank regs are not gonna have any effect on efficiency, they cant.

u might wanna invest in the air guages for the A1. also how many shot are on the counter as your regulator might not be worn in yet. also whats the output pressure from the tanks regulator.
the guages for the A1 can be purchesed from www.fixmyangel.com
and you can make a tank regulator tester out of a old duck bill and guege u can source from your local hardware store. VANTAGE_TES made a nice guide for this also

Another thing that will help is good paint to bore match, the stock backs are oversized for most paint out there, and if your paint is just rolling through the .691, your going to not be as efficient. I use the .687 back (expanded barrel kit) with RPS premium and 45/4500 filled to ~2500psi (stuck with scuba tanks as well) and I usually get a pulse and 3 maybe 4 locklids before I hit 500psi or slightly less.

I would also take a look at your exhaust valve. It could be the culprit.

Thanks to all of you, you have been of great help to me. I would have to buy the test tools, I'm guessing that my A1 is way up on the air pressure. My paint to barrel bore match is not the best, I use a .691 cause is the smallest one that comes with the A1. I'm thinking of buying a stiffi barrel. Anyone knows if fixmyangel.com ships to mexico ? I'm from Puerto Rico but I live right now in mexico.
P.D. - zWarlord, if I just buy a LP tank regulator to replace the HP dye tank reg, how is it that it is not better the eficiency ? it supposed to low from 800 or so from HP to 500-600 or so from LP. Please let me know.

The pressure coming out of the tank is not the exact amount used to fire the marker. If the vert reg is set wrong however THEN it will affect the efficiency. This is the same for any marker.
Once the air passes the vert reg, some air is stored in the air gallery in the front ready for firing, and some goes to the back for operating the ram.
Its onlt the final regulator that air passes through that will afeect efficiency.
