This is my marker from back a few years. I picked it up used and got out of paintball soon after. My largest fear of re-entering the sport was having to reinvest in a new marker. Parts are impossiable to get at my local shops but now I have found a reliable parts supplier(FixMyAngel), and the owners manual with full diagrams so hopefully I will be able to overhaul the marker my self. I hope this turns into a fun project, I will be adding photos as I work through this. My first parts order is going out next week so the fun will begin soon.

Thanks for looking.

remember its an 11 year old marker and its showing its agae in comparison to todays lower end markers. if ur gonna rebuild it make sure you think it threw and source the parts. FMA is a wonderful source for parts btw (bob hooks me up and im in korea)

i hate to say it but LEDs r more of a collectors thing than anything. they still mow faces but in there own special way.

I have thought about that, however, I doubt Ill be picking up any large tourneys any time soon....maybe a few local ones here and there, but for me, I think the rebuild will be sufficient. I have heard good things about Bob and his services from multiple places, that is why I have chosen him as my supplier. Hopefully I wont run into any major problems, but if I do I think this site will be able to point me in the right direction.

Looks like it's in great shape, why does it need a massive overhaul?

Not so much of a "MASSIVE" overhaul, but the marker hasn't been cycled much in the past 2 years.

Im just making sure I have all the screws and O-rings I need before I rely on the marker to be my main gun. I would hate to be out in the field and have a parched O-ring blow out on me.

I need to relocate some of my tools so I can break down the gun to its bare bones. I have taken it apart as much as I can now and I can already see a few seals and screws that need to be replaced. I had it overhauled 2 years ago by a "WDP TECH" But it was horse§§§§, that guy didnt know anything and almost stole my marker when his store went under. He claims he did work, but I dont believe him. If I do it myself, I know its been done.

Thanks for all of the posts, this is a project I am really looking forward to.

I post on several forums for various different subjects, I have found them to be the best way to learn a lot of information quickly, and accurately.

I promise, I will give the search button a try before I ask away and annoy people. I know that takes up alot of unnecessary bandwidth, and it makes the forum hard to read with a ton of repeat threads or questions.

Once again, thanks for the nice welcome to a information packed forum.

ok.....

Photo 1 We have the semi-broken down frame.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/P9110007.jpg
Photo 2 We have all of the parts I am currently able to remove with my tools. I have them laid out on the paper as close as I can get them to their relative place on the marker. I find this makes assembly/disassembly much easier, especially if you are unfamiliar with the marker, as I am with this one.

Photo 4 Wiring assembly in the rear of the gun, it looks like it goes to the trigger and solenoid. Im not sure I like that ratty looking hookup though, I might want to re-solder that and re-shrinktube it.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/P9110013.jpg
Photo 5 All of the threads in the front look good, I might be replacing those little screws once I pull them out and see how they look.
http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/P9110014.jpg
Photo 6 My damaged bolt, you can probablly see that huge gash that is deeper than it looks. Upon further inspection, I found this is from the ball detent. This is a factory bolt on a 8+ year old marker, Im not sure if its the original or not, but it sure looks like it.

oh if you have a LCD laying around the screw from the solinoid cover will screw into the front of the LPR so you can pull it out as well as take 2 similar size hex wrench's and u can twist the ram out. needle nose works too

i look forward to watching this thread progress as you go threw your marker. leds hold a special place in my heart :D

Its beena while since I have posted, but I am back on schedule with the rebuild.

I finally have assembled a semi-acceptable tool collection, and managed to do so for relatively cheap. With my new tools, I am able to disassemble the marker to its bare bones.....almost. For some reason, I cannot get the trigger frame screws out. My metrics wont work, although I am gonna buy a new set of those and retry it, My metric wrenches are old and worn down. Once I get the frame off of the body, I will be able to disassemble the wiring harness and get at the trigger assembly. You will also notice in my boxes, I am missing a few essential tools....LPR Gauge, LPR Adjuster and Ram Extraction tools are not there. Those are next on my to buy list...As well as a few misc. screws here and there.

I got my first shipment from FMA today, and I am quite impressed with their service and speed! I Will Definitely will be sticking with them for parts for the rest of this rebuild.

As I got the inside of the marker looking like new, I am very impressed with the overall condition of this marker(inside and out), especially since it is 10 years old next month.

I also found out that this marker was 1 of 10 in its color, and 1 of 50 in a series

Some more things to note about this marker:

**Stock Zip Chip
**2nd generation RAM (Blue Color)
I believe this is the RAM system stock on the LCD Model.

Enjoy progress pictures. We have here a New Tool Set & Boxes, The cleaned 14 way housing(which is beautiful), the cleaned 14 way valve....however, it seems to have some nasty corrosion? on it...its an eyesore, and I hope it does not affect the performance of the marker at all when properly tuned. The Zip Chip, and a cool trigger/gripframe screw pic. I cant get either of the grip frame screws out....I think I have bad wrenches so I am gonna get a fresh set of metric wrenches. I think thats all for now! In the housing photo, note the blue colored RAM. This is the second generation RAM assembly that was used in the LED. This came stock with this Limited Edition.

Ugg.......Project delay #1 Frozen Screws.

the gun is fully disassembled with the exception of the Feed neck, Trigger Frame, RAM & LPR assemblies. I know I need a Strap Wrench for the Feed Neck, so I might be buying that later today. This Grip Frame is another story though.....I think the last guy who tech'd it sabotaged my gun....

This guy James from Y2K Extreme Sports in the Detroit MI area.....I sent my marker in for service....and while it was in the store he closed down shop....I went to his store one day to check on progress and saw a for lease sign in the window. He never notified me of the closure and his phone numbers were disconnected. I ended up having to file a police report to get the gun back and I think he returned it after he had messed with it....But thats just s theory of mine and HUGE reason I am doing this rebuild myself. Hopefully someone will be able to give me some tips on breaking loc tite without damaging the marker. I dont care about the screws, but I dont have a dremel to cut them out with. as for the RAM and LPR, My next order will consist of a LPR Pressure Gauge, LPR and RAM tools, plus a few replacement screws. I know its possiable to "Rig" something to remove LPR and save some cash, but I want to do this right. Plus, improper removal could result in less than favorable results.

Here are the screws That are giving me the most grief....http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/FrontTriggerFrameScrew.jpghttp://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/RearTriggerFrameScrew.jpg

They don't look to have rounded out holes. Do they? I always get damaged allen screws out by cutting a slot across the head of them and using a flathead screwdriver. You can also clamp vice grips around the screwdriver to break them loose. Mask off all around the screw with heavy tape in case you slip cutting or unscrewing though. Wouldn't want unsightly gouges on your lovely marker. :)

Thanks for the tip, thats a good idea. I can buy the new screws anywhere. Here are some more pictures for you. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/WiringHarnessChipPlug.jpg

On this last picture I have a ?? Why are the wires from the components and the wires from the loom different gauges? It seems to me that a common wire size would get the best results. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z178/LTHG/DifferentWires.jpg

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me out with this project. If you supplied me with parts/advise, or both. Thank you again!

I just got back from playing with it and man, this baby is a smooth shooter. I picked up a tool kit finally this weekend and fine tuned it. I found a indoor reball place and took my rig up there and played around with it. Not only does this marker shoot strait, its consistent. Every time I used the chrono, it was a 1-2 fps difference.

With this project being complete, I have another marker on the way that needs some work, and I look forward to working with the members of AO.com to help me with that one as well.

It just goes to show that the oldschool gear can mow faces. I racked up 8-9 kills tonite with it.

Thanks again!

Congrats!!! Good to hear it did so well. I can only imagine the comments you heard about the thing. "What on earth is that?" "Gosh, that's heavy" "Is that the first gun ever made?" Only to have you show them what a 10 year old gun can do! Your REALLY going to love playing with the Speed though, smaller, lighter, and faster than the LED and shoots just as good.

lthg
12-10-2007, 03:37 PM
Lol. most people assumed it was an "Ancient LCD"

When I corrected them and said LED, the jaws dropped. :)

I know it cant shoot quite as fast as the new A1, DM8-7, and all that new jazz, but once the paint started to fly, nobody ever mentioned the fact that shes a dinosaur. Most people hadn't seen a single trigger marker in at least 5-6 years anyway. I actually caught more people eying it than negatively commenting it. Aside from the ware and tare surface scratched, the chrome anno really stands out.

And I cant wait for the speed to arrive.....thats a project thats right around the corner.

Shibbykins
12-10-2007, 05:15 PM
and that speed will get out to you as soon as it arrives here. Im actually excited to see what your going to do with it lol

Congrats with the LED man. Ive been meaning to pickup a new one myslef for nostagic reasons but teh wifes making me liquidate the not so rare markers i have so you never know.

I'm sure many younger players have never seen anything that old or even think things like your LED exist. I know I've had some really strange comments on some of my old/ weird mechanical markers. Nasty Typhoon anyone?

How about some pics of it all nice and cleaned up? Or better yet some action pics of you tearing it up out on the field with that "Living fossil". At the very least you have to put some up in the LED picture thread!!!

Ask and you will receive. Action shots on Sunday.

Note the vintage setup in its entirety, truly collectors stuff.

Complete with the LED, the 12v VL Revolution, and the AGD Flatline n2 system. This kind of setup dominated the tournament scene in 1997-1999 and still rocks it today. Definitely not the most advanced setup, but its certainly "vintage" :) Enjoy.
