View Full Version : Need Advise On Tuning Marker

I recently purchased a CP Volumizer, AKA LPR and a Boostmonkey Gauge all in hopes of getting the best efficiency out of my 05 Speed. I've been trolling the boards searching for any and all relevant info on accomplishing this task. I found a post by Trigga Nometry posted back in 2005 that I found very interesting, would this hold true with the recent release of compensating LPR's

How to TUNE the Angel:

Setting the valve dwell...

Air-up the marker if it isn't already and head for a chronograph. Fire the marker over a chronograph until it stabilizes at 290 FPS or so, as long as it is consistent.

Now set your valve dwell to the highest setting. This is the least efficient setting. Fire your marker over the chronograph and reduce the valve dwell little by little. You are looking for the velocity to decrease. When the velocity decreases, increase the dwell setting until the velocity returns to the previous setting. Now your marker is at it's most efficient setting.

Now your marker is tuned and in tip-top shape to tear up the field.

I'm basically trying to avoid "Reinventing the wheel" by getting input from those that are knowledgable in getting the best efficiency out of the older 05 Speeds with settings suggestions.
Thanks in Advance to any suggestions given

I think I copied that from www.ultratwistedpaintball.com or something like that.

With the AKA or STD LPR, you'll have no worries about the LPR pressure changing as you change the minireg as some of the stock WDP LPRs had been known to do. The AKA (what I have in my G7 Fly) is just amazing.

The Evolve valve helped with the tuning process but was/is a major paint in the butt to get it set up properly. The Evolve valve essentially reduced excess air or blow-back. You can do it by changing the dwell until there is no change as stated above.

Since the Evolve valve is such a pain to get set up properly would you reccomend getting the MT valve instead to aid in fine tuning?

I forgot to mention that I'm also planning on ordering a delrin hammer from DB-1071, would this help in efficiency as well?

The MT valve is only for the G7 platform and will not fit into the Speed 05. Back in the day Cobra had a nice valve for the Speed 05/A4 Fly platform but they are no longer in business.

You'll be really happy with the Speed 05 as it is though. Are you getting crappy air efficiency now or are you just looking to tweak and fine tune it?

I really don't have anything to compare my efficiency to other than the fact that I'm not too happy about going to the air station because I cannot use my scuba tank and fill station at the local fields here in SanDigo anymore, which by the way I think sucks!
But I am also looking to tweak and fine tune.

Make sure your paint to barrel match is alwasy good.
If you overbore too much, your efficiency goes down.

Thanks for all the feedback.
I'm currently using a Redz barrel kit and I try my best to match barrel to paint, using the ole trusty blow through test ;)
