Hello fellow Angel 1 owners, I'm trying to update the software and there is a problem. I have searched for forum topics and none are the same except for "uterus' thread" but I have tried SIX (one brand new) cables and nothing.

The problem is this: I unzip the Angel-One-Software-v2.2-Upgrade-Bundle, unzip CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP and Double click CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP. Install shield Wizard does it's thing and I click Finish. I then go to the installed folder under c drive and double click the preinstaller.exe file. Installation Successful box is shown and I click OK.

This is where my problem starts, I connect the USB lead (any of the six I have tried now), turn on the Angel 1 and connect to the gun. "USB device not recognized, One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click here..."

If I click on it to diag. the problem it is an "unknown device". Double click "unknown device" and click on the "Driver" tab on top. Driver details "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device".

If I do as the instructions state and point it in the right diredtion by clicking "update driver" button then "Install from a list or specific location" and enter the saved file folder "C:\SiLabs\MCU\CP210x\Win2K_XP". The result is "Cannot Continue the Hardware Update Wizard, The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. Choose what you want to do....."

First question is what USB cable are you using? Mini-B (the ones I have) or Mini-A?

Second question is that I think it is a driver issue what do you think?

I have spoken to BoB and he sugested I uninstall everything and start over because it soulds like a driver problem. I have with the same results.

I'm at the end of my rope here. ANY help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

What version of windows are you running? Have you tried installing the rest of the software and then trying to connect the marker? Do you have another A1 you can try? Does this file fwnppd.dll exist in your C:/windows/system32 directory

Windows XP service pack 2.

Yes. I have installed the flash program. I launch the program then open/select the update file but then it says "connect marker" I do and nothing happens, it doesn't know what I plugged in.

My first A1.

I will look for that file.

Thanks BoB.

There is no file by that name in that folder.

Would it be possible to get a copy of the driver emailed to me instead of unzipping it. It is only about 400kb from what I can see.

Do you connect your USB cable to the motherboard USB connector of your PC or from some other external port or hub? If your connecting it to the motherboard try another connector. Most PC's have more than 1 USB port. Windows is funny like that. Every USB port you plug into it will see it as a new device. Another possibility is some motherboard BIOS you can disable the plug and play function of windows. Check to see that you have it enabled.

Lastly. If you have done everything that I wrote above you can select to install the driver manually. Instead of letting the windows wizzard find it select that you have the driver and direct it to the directory you saved the files in.

Click windows start button (bottom left of screen), click search, search in all files folders for fwnppd.dll once located copy into your c:\windows\system32 folder and restart computer. File should be in c:\program Files\Series 1 Flash Utility.

Thanks for all the suggestions, this group is a good bunch of people.

I have tried different USB locations. My PSP cable is connected to it's own USB, my 2.5 external hard drive is connected to it's own USB, then I also tried other cables from the top "easy to get to" USB connections.

I have not tried disabling the plug and play function but might try that if BoB's suggestion doesn't work.

I have also tried installing the driver manually. I select "update driver" but I only get "Cannot Continue the Hardware Update Wizard, The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. Choose what you want to do....." after it scans the "C:\SiLabs\MCU\CP210x\Win2K_XP" folder.

I have also spoken to the head office of the vendor I bought it from and will be taking it to them to have this checked out (it is new after all). But they seam very helpful. But I would like to do this myself for any future update and not have to go back and forth wasting my time and theirs.

Thank you again everyone for your support.
