I'm thinking about buying a new marker; I already have a Gat and was wondering if the Angel 1 is a better gun and why.
Thanks in advance!

The angel one is a totally different marker than the GAT. In my opinion the angel one is much better than the GAT. It for one is newer but it also is just a better marker. Its like comparing a 20 year old Ferrari to a brand new one. There both nice cars but the new Ferrari is just better.

Wow, I didn't quite expect that response especially sinc the Gat is only a year old. What are some of the major differences from a spec perspective?

You can go to www.wdp.tv and see the specs. If I were you I would test it you will see and feel the difference.

yea the 20 year old ferrari is a far stretch for a comparison. not exactly an acurate analogy if you ask me, but that just if you ask. i would say that the gat is a more reliable marker. but thats just at the moment. as time goes on things get better for the A1. and you will probably have less maintinence with the gat. it has less consumable parts on it. im sure that the A1 is alot nicer to shoot when its operating right. but you need to weigh the pro's and con's and decide for yourself.

okay here's the Gat vs A1 specs!
Gat=06 model
A1=07 model
Gat has the G7 style "sure fit" clamping feedneck.
A1 has the newer, more popular lever-locking feedneck.
Gat=light
A1=lighter
Gat=single magnetic trigger
A1= 4-way adjustable frictionless trigger
Gat= G7 internals
A1= New Angel1 internals
Gat= high cycling flat back solenoid
A1=smallest, fastest cycling solenoid used on any marker to date.
Gat=31 BPS
Angel1=UNLIMITED BPS
The gat may be a good, reliable marker, but the A1 is much better. Its smaller, lighter, and more technologically advanced. Plus having a screen is amazing. The angel 1 is the most accurate, best shooting angel yet. and even if you do run into a problem, WDP imho has the best customer service around. Bob always helps me out when I call him.
Get the A1. You'll love it. I love mine.

I agree w/ everything jenou said. The Gat is an awesome marker, but the A1 is just a little better in every aspect.
The only thing I don't like about the A1 compared to the older Angels is the ball detents, but knock on wood I haven't had any problems with mine.

... plus as I'm sure you know the A1 has the OLED screen that the 06 Speed/GAT doesn't and it also has a USB interface so you can always keep up to date on software changes.

okay here's the Gat vs A1 specs!
Let's talk about this some more:
Gat=06 model
A1=07 model
The A1 came out in what, June of 2006? I know it was out by July because I shot one at the Monster game. Are we calling that a 2007 model??
Gat has the G7 style "sure fit" clamping feedneck.
A1 has the newer, more popular lever-locking feedneck.
Gat=light
A1=lighter
Gat=single magnetic trigger
A1= 4-way adjustable frictionless trigger
The trigger adjustments are the same. The Gat/Speed even has a quick adjustment vernier wheel for the rear stop. If anything that is +1 for the Gat.
Both guns have the same type of breakaway magnetic trigger on the micro bearings that are so popular.
Gat= G7 internals
A1= New Angel1 internals
Gat= high cycling flat back solenoid
A1=smallest, fastest cycling solenoid used on any marker to date.
Gat=31 BPS
Angel1=UNLIMITED BPS
You know that "unlimted BPS" is marketing hype BS right? There is a minimum dwell time in the A1, same with minimum ball in place delay and other delays built into the firing cycle. "unlimted BPS" just means they are not telling you what the limit is. There IS a maximum rate the board can fire at, and there is an even slower maximum rate the mechanicals in the gun can fire at.

I prefer the simplicity of the Speeds actually. They don't NEED a screen. I swapped a friend my A4 Fly for her 03 Speed one afternoon and LOVED the on/off simplicity of the Speed. I preferred it so much that I sold that Fly and bought an 06 Speed.

Unlimited ROF. HA. Show me. I haven't seen a hopper that fast yet. Besides, the tournament series I play in uses PSP rules so 15.4bps is all I need. The GAT will be far more efficient. My A1 in a tournament this past weekend, shooting a 68/4500 dxs lp tank, optimum settings, updated internals, perfect bore/paint match, was running out of air after just 5 pods and a hopper. As far as weight, hit a gym. After throwing on your hopper and tank, a few grams is hardly noticable.

Paintball is subject to fads. Drop forwards are in... then they're out... etc. I cannot wait until "strong" replaces "light" as an important marker characteristic.

I still vote for the A1, but yes it's true that the Gat is the more air efficient marker out of the two.
Yes the Gat also has the vernier wheel to make quick adjustments to the trigger, but IMO it's not really necessary and probably why it was deleted on the A1. Once you set your trigger up the way you like it you'll probably never change it.
I wouldn't really call making a gun lighter a fad... that's something that's been going on for years, but I do agree that it's pretty much hit it's peak. The weight difference between high end guns of today is minimal and not worth mentioning IMO.

Well then...
If youre still thinking about a new angel, wait a while if you're not sure about the Angel1. I heard that WDP as of the release of the A1 will be releasing two angels every year.

When did the G7 Gly come out, 2005 or 2006? The 06 Speed, Gat, & A1 all came out in 2006. So it looks like they're doing 3-4 new guns per year. :)
I really like the USB updateable firmware and new internal layout WDP brought with the A1.
The next Angel could be quite sweet if it had new eye covers and maybe even internal air routing (like a mini). :smile:

The Gat is a PL 06 Speed, WDP did not officially release it. The 06 speed and the A1 aswell as maybe the G7 Fly (not sure of its exact year classification although they were available in late 2005)

Correct....you cannot count aftermarket versions. Up until recently they have put out 3 guns per year....a Speed, a flagship and a flagship Fly
