I have ordered a Speed and this is my first angel. I read somewhere that you have to be carefull when charging angles because some SUV's have to high of voltage. Unfortunatly My parents have an SUV and big truck so the voltage is probably to high. Will the cobra charger work and/or will the speeds charger have some sort of regulator to make it safe in a higher voltage cigarette lighter? Also is a metric allen set needed or does it come with a allen key? I only have standard.

that's the first I've ever heard about SUV's being to high of a voltage to charge an Angel.......I've had a Durango since before I bought my first Angel and I've always charged them in there until I bought a wall adapter unit. You should be just fine charging it inside any vehicle

so u think the good ole RadioShack Wall Adapter will work for the Speed?

I charge mine in my a Ford Explorer and have never had a problem, or with my Radio Shack wall charger.

Don't use the cigarette lighter use the accessory plugs usually found below the dash on the passenger side.Depending on the vehicle if it is running it's possible to get a higher voltage.Alpine at one time took advantage of this with their amps running up to 14.4 volts off of a 12 volt system.

you're going to have show me.....I just looked at our online version, and it says nothing about it.

I've used both the lighter, and power adapter that I have in my Durango, and never suffered any adverse effects on any of my markers.

Interesting. I'm a naysayer along with Emmit until you show me. All cars globally have a 12v charge. It's such a worlwide standard (one of the very few in the world) that WDP took this into account and hence made the Angel with a car charger so it would not need to redesign chargers based on country, plug/connector type and voltage.

12 volts is standard around here, but in other parts of the world, it's actually higher. And just because it says you're 12 volts, you're probably more like 14 or 15, that's normal.

The type of car or truck you drive doesn't make a difference. If your battery puts out 12 volts, I don't care if it's in a honda civic or a ford F250, you're not going to have any more than 12 volts. If it's puts out 15.5, you'll get 15.5 volts. As long as you bought a standard automotive battery, didn't buy it in Europe, and didn't make it yourself, you'll be fine. Look on your battery, it'll tell you the voltage and the CCAs. Forget the CCas, and just look at voltage. If it says 12, you're fine. All 12v batteries put out the same voltage. Amperage can be different, but not voltage.

The Amperage in a truck is possibly going to be higher than the amperage in a car, but cigarette lighters (or the auxilary accessory outlets) are designed to have specific outputs. If it would screw up your angel, it would also screw up radar detectors, cell phone chargers, and anything else you plug into them. You know the truck manufacturer wouldn't make a cigarette lighter that would blow everything up.

I drive a very large truck, with a lot of lights, and an extremely powerful electrical system (500 watt alternator :) Normal is about 60-100) and I charge my angel in my truck, and have never had a problem.

All this to say, Don't worry about it, it'll be fine.

I got a reply with Eric from Angelparts and he said the speeds have a built in regulator so any car should be fine! I know im answering my own post but maybe someone else was wondering too. Thanks for your input guys
