I feel let down by hte new speed. I guess mt biggest complaintent(sp) is the price. If you do a little hustling you can find NEW ir3's for about 1k. So you can get a IR3 for 100 bucks more. I thought the speed was going to be this cheaper angel to compete with the other higher end low budget electros?

If you get in touch with the right people, I bet you can find the SPEED lower then $899.

we've already had this price discussion.....it's still going to retail for the same price as Regular Intimidators, LCD Matrix etc.....
And that is what it should retail at.

$1000 is supposedly retail this weekend at the WDP booth according to a post that either Ron or Eric made in another thread, can't remember who exactly stated it, but it was right after someone started making comments about the preorder price going up

Dont look at the ir3 and the speed in the same light. Theyre far too removed from one another and geared towards different markets, hence its pointless to price compare between the two.
As for the upped price from a $899 pre-order, to a $949 pre-order, to $1k at vegas. I think wdp is just riding the market for now. Its impossible for dealers to be competitive while the marker is still in pre-order status.
Wait untill the dealers have stock on hand and i believe you'll see the price of the speed drop back to $899 MSRP
Remember, WDP is apparently bringing out a 2nd new marker this year, which will possibly lock the speed to the $899 MSRP.
(They cant have old IR3's, the speed, and the new marker all running above $1000....it would be marketing stupidity)

:sshh:
sure it took 18 months to bring out the ir3 and there going to make a new one.

Hence the word "apparently"......there is no concrete info pertaining to any new release other than the speed to my knowledge, only hear-say.
Since the ir3 is still pretty much new. Why did wdp want such a short period between the release of the ir3 and speed (which out shines many performance features of the ir3)?
Other than to make a move into other markets? god only knows.
I doubt wdp would replace their original IR3 design, however, an updated/improved model could be a likley possibility. Its all speculation and businesses have done weirder things in the past.
IMO, a baller looking to buy NOW would only chose an ir3 over the speed for any one of 2 possible reasons:
1. They can get the ir3 cheaper, or found a bloody good deal on a custom.
OR
2. They partake in fashion shows.

I think the reason for the short time between the IR3 and the Speed is a matter of competition. I'm sure the Speed has been designed for some time and WDP was looking for the right moment to release it and capitalize. But who could've guessed Chris Lasoya would leave Angels behind, go to Bob Long, and have a Signature Series out so fast...and a 25bps model at that. The Speed is WDP's answer to the BPS competition between manufacturers.

I disagree the speed is WDP's Answer to BPS competition. In last month's PGI magazine there was an interview with the creator of the angel. He states that he has ir3s that were connected to 25bps force fed machines and the ir3 was still outshooting the loader. and he then states the ir3's 14-way can cycle 180 times a second so theoretically however fast the loader can pump up to 180 BPS which obviously is not possible but THEORETICALLY the ir3 could still keep up.
I think the SPEED came because of people believing that the ir3 is too expensive for features seldomly used. Yeah it is neat that I can have my name flash in LIVE mode but is that needed?

lol...good point. just my 2 cents.

So are you saying that the IR3 is capable of hitting 180 bps???? Dman thats pretty fast... but my question is the SPEED still faster than the IR3?????

No I definitely am not saying the ir3 can 180 BPS. Gravity and physics prevent 180 paintballs being forced into the marker and the bolt cycling 180 times in a second. As far as the speed being faster, I would like to know....he didn't mention anything about any new angels so I have no Idea. I wonder what WDP would respond if I e-mailed them? We will se. I will post my Email and WDPs response once I recieve it.

I think what WDP might be trying to say by their statement about the solenoid is that you are being limited by the board, and that the solenoid should last forever. If I remember correctly I was talking with someone and the solenoids WDP are using were originally designed for some 100 million cycles before they went bad or some outragous number like that, of course I could be wrong on that...

Good info to dig up, but the Angel is limited (like all guns) by the rate of cycle of the Ram, not the solenoid. Hence, in making the SPEED more efficient it cycles (potentially) faster.

As for the IR3's ultimate capability, there was a video that wdp released to demonstrate the capability of COPS2.
If you saw it, it started with the title "24 bps" and featured an IR3 shooting full auto at 24bps.

jw -- wha'd they use for a loader?
also i don't think an ir3 could cycle at 180bps. that would be almost 2 cycles in every 100th of a second. i don't think so
Maybe your stretching this thing way too far.
Off on a bit of a tangent.
The iR3 and the SPEED are totally different guns.

and if I rememember correctly, isn't the board on an ir3 capped at like 20? I thought that is what I was told.

yes.....MROF on the IR3 is 20

YES 20 bps for consumers. who knows what they had done to the board to show it shooting that fast. Tehy do have full controll over what they release afterall.

i guess you could compare the ir3 and the speed like you would compare the Dragon timmy and the gz timmy. The dragon is more expensive and has all the frills of an lcd screen while the gz is a bare bones performance marker. So the SPEED is a bare boens performance marker
