View Full Version : has anyone predatored an LED?

I was just wondering if anyone had sent their angel led to tag for the predator mod. I think a more modern board and a set of eyes would really improve the LED. I was wondering how it works, and what you think of the mod. Also, I was wondering what is adjustable on the board, such as bounce, etc.
Thanks for the help,
Pete

One of my Angels has the Predator conversion and I am very pleased. I personally like having the 3mm DM style eyes. My line of thinking is that larger eyes are harder to cover in the event of a broken ball. What some see as a disadvantage is the use of E-Blade eye covers rather than the WDP style found on markers with factory eyes. The board is very easy to program and the marker is ready to fire instantly after powered up. The board has a trigger switch rather than an optic trigger. The Predator conversion also carries a six month warranty covering the V3 Predator board, eyes, as well as the entire gun regardless its age. As far as adjustability here is a list of the major adjustments:
1. Firing Mode (14 firing modes)
2. Rate of Fire
3. Electronic and Mechanical Anti Bounce
4. Dwell
5. AFA Rate of Fire (Rate of fire before entering advanced firing modes)
6. AFA Shot Count (Number of trigger pulls before entering advanced firing modes)
7. Fire Hold Off (Delay before the marker will fire again after cycling, in milliseconds)
8. Eye Hold Off (Delay before the marker will fire after seeing a ball, in milliseconds)
9. Anti Bolt Stick
10. Anti Bolt Stick Time
11. Eye Off Rate Off Fire
12. ROF Additions in .20 of a second
13. Disable Eye Through Trigger
14. Clearing Shot

Thank you very much for the info. What gun do you have the predator on? Glad to know it has that many adjustments, the description on tags website makes it sound much more basic than that.
I have to scrounge up $325 before I can take the plunge, but I am thinking this is a very good mod. First I get the gun converted to 9v power, which is a plus, because I dont know if it is coming with a charger or not. Then I get ACE, which is the best innovation in paintball since the electronic marker, IMO. Then I get a board that is far more adjustable, and faster than the standard LED board. Sounds like a great mod to me, even if it is pricey at $325.

not to nock the pred mod here. but you know you could probably pick up an a4 fly for around the same price? just throwin that out there. the pred mod is a good investment. i would personally have bob do the MT mod instead.... but thats just me. any way you decide to go you will def be happy.

For2nato is right about being able to pick up an A4 Fly for the cost of the conversion. I bought that particular A4 used from a guy who had already had the eyes drilled for the Predator conversion and epoxied them in place. TAG drills their eyes in a different location than the MT's, so I had no choice but to send it in for a Predator mod. I must admit that an MT eye conversion does look more professional, but when it comes to performance that A4 rips. I also like the 9 volt feature on the V3 board. That way if my marker is running out of juice at a tournament I can just put a new battery in. I have never seen pictures of an LED with a Predator mod, you should post some pictures if you get it done. Good luck

That is true. I got the LED for $225, there is a nice looking speed demon for sale for $310, and some A4s are pretty cheap as well. In terms of pure technology, I would have been better off going with a newer angel that wouldn't need such an upgrade for just a few dollars more. However, the eclipse has more value to me, as I love all my eclipse stuff, and have wanted an eclipse angel for a while. So it has a personal value to me I guess. I can't wait to recieve the gun. Supposedly it is having some trouble reaching 280 fps, but I figure that I live 40 mins from Ken Crane, and he can most likely fix whatever is wrong with it. If the gun comes with the charger, I will be able to use it and see how it performs with out the eyes. If it doesn't come with the charger, I will have to upgrade to some kind of 9 volt board, so we will see.
I will post pictures of it as soon as it arrives, and post more if I get the predator mod, which wouldn't be for a little while anyway. I have to buy books for next semester, which are pricey.
Thanks for the help guys,
Pete

remember too. you can always have either tag or ken do just the eye install. with no board. that leaves you open to pick your own 9v board such as a lucky or tadao.

so what boards are compatible with the LED?
Lots of boards claim to be compatible with the LCD and later angels, but I dont know which are compatible with the LED. I know the size of the grip frame is an issue with some boards. I have seen an LCD frame modded to fit on an LED, but I am not sure how to do it. If it could be done with another board by ken, I would look into that, especially if it was less than $325.

you know i could probably mount a dm board in an led frame if you wanted me too. it really depends what you are willing to do to get it mounted. button location arent really an issue for me cause i can hook up a membrane pad to just about any board. but again thats me. if your comfortable with basic soldering and minor mods to your frame you could probably take your pic of boards.

yeah, I am not to confident in my own abilities, so I dont know if I would want to go modifying a brand new board. I also have been looking for an eclipse LED for a long time, and I dont want to mess it up. I do want to modernize it as stealthily as I can so I can mow people down with it and have them not know what hit them and their brand new guns.
I wish I had the gun here with me, it is still in the mail. Although I hink I remember from my friends old eclipse angel there are no button holes on that back, its just an on/off switch and thats it.

yea the led's have a switch on the side of the grip frame. the down side is there is no way to put eyes in it without changing the board. and youll know it has eyes as soon as you see it. you might just think about getting an insanely fast loader.

yeah, I know I will have to put in a new board to get the eyes. I am planning on doing both. I know that it does not have eyes on it now, and I am assuming it has the stock board. I thought that the predator was the only thing out for the led angels, if there are other ways, I would look into them as well.

I first got my Eclipse LED about 3 years ago...And it was kickin until I took a year or two off. The battery died. And I got tired of buying $60 replacement batteries. So I did my homework...And now, not only have I bought 2 more Eclipses, one has been at TAG getting the Pred board/Eye install. Its costly, but it seems rather properly done after the amount of research I've done. No one else is showing too much love for LEDs, and like Featherlight 07 said, I've been waiting to get back out there to smash kids with my soon to be completed up-to-date dinosaur. Before you send it in to TAG, get proper info about turn-around times. Mine should've been back last week, but they decided to upgrade the LED boards. The last code they accepted was the one they have out now. So if I wait patiently, another few weeks and I should have an even better LED pred board able to support any future software updates... I'll keep ya'll posted.

First, I must say I am extremely jealous of your collection of eclipse LEDs. I am a big fan of all eclipse markers, especially the angels. Mine is glacier splash I believe, I would love a banzai green one and fire splash one to go with it.
I recieved the angel today, and I was surprised to find a charger included in the box. The battery still seems to work as well, which is cool. I still want to do the predator mod, or some other similar mod. 9v, more modern board, eyes, etc. However, the gun it self is having some issues. When I go to gas it up, it leaks from the solenoid vent holes in the top of the gun, and kind of fires itself. I say kind of, because the bolt doesn't move back and forth, yet you can definately hear it firing. The gun can be shut off, and it will still do this. I e-mailed Ken Crane about it, and hopefully I will take it by this week and figure out whats wrong with it.
I can't wait to find out what you think of the predator mod, as I wont be doing anything with the gun for at least a couple weeks, so you should have yours back by then
Thanks,
Pete
