Drilling 05 Speed Bolt

I've heard that it's possible to clean out broken ball residue from the eyes on an 05 Speed by drilling holes in the bolt. Is this another pb Urban Legend or something I can actually do? I'd appreciate any advise/instruction.

dont do it. i went through 5 bolts before i got the eye hole size right

If you buy a new bolt from the MT's they will drill the holes for you if you ask. They will also do the A1 modification to new bolts too.
