As it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the problem, I thought you might be interested.
When using a PC with a real (physical) COM1 port, the Flash Utility will not recognize the Angel1 because of the UART bridge registering to the next free COM port (e.g. COM2).
To make it work disable the original COM1 port using the "windows device manager" and plug in the Angel afterwards (picture).
UART will use COM1 and the Flash Utility will recognize the Angel.
After flashing the Angel you may reactivate the physical COM1 port if you really need it.
