Im new to what "quality" paint actually means. I recently bought marbelizers and was really excited to see the difference between my old paint and them. Theyre really round and nice looking but very hard to break. I thought this was a bad thing because it would be harder for the paint to break on a player. som1 plz shed some light on what i should be looking for in paint. any company recomendations would be great to!

go to www.pbreview.com click on the paintballs category and sort by average rating. There are a lot of good paint companies but most of them make high, low and medium quality paint what u want to look for in a ball is of course shape (nice and round), the balls bore size also needs to match the barrel, which is why many people buy barrel kits. With the advancement of high end guns many types of paint, even really brittle paint, can be shot with a low amount of chops.

First off when looking for good quality paint, look for consistance in the balls them self. You don't want to find any dimpled balls, or oblong egg shaped balls. Next you don't want the shell to have one side longer then the other. You can look for this by looking at the seam where the two halfs of the ball where put together. You want that seam in the middle of the ball, not 3/4 of the way. Check for any voids/ or air bubbles in the fill, this will usually lead to dimples forming. Also check to see the color of the shell looks new, and is not faded, which is a sign of old paint. The BEST thing you could ever do is buy GOOD Fresh paint, (ANY reputable Paintball PRoshop/ or field should have Fresh paint, and will get some direct from the Manufacture) Walmart/Meijer/Dick's/ etc.. is NOT a good place to buy paint, since they usaully have no ideal how old it is, nor anything about Paintball in general. Stick to the Name Brands too, although they too do sometimes make bad paint. Marbelizers are a PMI brand, and are often considered good paint, however I too think that they have way to hard of a shell, and perfer something a bit more brittle. I like Evil paint from PMI also, but GAP makes Great paint, as does Draxas/Procaps, Archon/Zap, Nelson, and the list goes on and on...
Hopes this helps you, just remember paint is like Produce, and has a self life of about 6 months. And when you buy paint you want a good thick fill so as that jerk you just shot out, can't wipe the hit cleanly and deny he's been hit.

You are on the right track.
Good paint will, quite simply, be rounder. Pretty much all paintballs are largest at the seams and while that's not necessarily bad, you don't want the seams to be any bigger than they have to. Dimpled paint can come from sitting too long and is not the best, but egg shaped or paint with warts is way worse.
Brittleness/hardness selection comes down to finding the best match for you and your gun. Brittler paint will be more likely to break on your opponents as well as be more likely to break in your gun/hopper. Find what works best for you. Colder, dryer weather makes paint more brittle.
As you have already found, Marbs are pretty hard as well as Blaze, Xball Bronze, and Rec-Sport. PMI Premium, Xball Silver, and Inferno are somewhat medium. Evil, Xball Gold, and Hellfire are quite brittle.
Cheap paint will often have a thin runny fill that is easy for cheaters to wipe. Better paints will have a thicker will that shows better. Any of the better paints will have a good thick fill, so you should look at other factors to choose betweeen them.
I used to buy only RPS brand paints (Evil, PMI, etc), but any more I feel Procaps brand paints (Draxxus, Xball, etc) are much higher quality for the price.
If you have a barrel kit, then you don't care what size the paint is. Bigger or smaller isn't inherently better. If you only have a stock barrel, avoid unusually large or small paint. Stick with stuff around .687-.691.
