i've put quite a few cases of paint thru my a1 and it started chopping for no reason, then i noticed the ball detents were, well pretty much "shagged"

I've herd a few people saying that the standard angel 1 detents are pretty useless, and they have been using the detents out of a 06 ego as there much stronger.

are they a straight swap? and dow they work any better? or should i stick with the a1 detents?.

thanks
Al

I wonder y WDP decided to use those rubber detents anyway...

I wonder y WDP decided to use those rubber detents anyway...I am guessing that it is real easy to clean if you get some wicked breaks due to loader issues (crushing)or barrel breaks. I always hate to get in the G7 Fly ball detents (screw, cover, spring, actual detent) and eyes to get a through cleaning during the middle of a day of paintball. It sounds like this would be easier but I can't say from personal experiance (still waiting for my A1 to arrive).

Can't wait to try the self-cleaning eye set-up too!

BTW - I have seen Ken post that the Ego detents easily shift in the A1. Sounds like they are not a perfect fit. Again, this is just what I have read.

My understanding of the soft detents is this: The harder the detents used, the greater wear there will be on the bolt.

I believe that using a very hard plastic for the detents (which the bolts slams past with every fire) will likely wear a groove in the bolt over time and possibly weaken its structural intergrity.

i've found that removing the bolt while storing your A1 prolongs the detents life. ive been doing that for a while and my detents are as good as when i put it in(stock replacement ones of course). i've shot about 6 case thru it.

the bolt, when storing the gun, gets stuck in the forward position and keeps the detent bent for a good amount of time. this just deforms the detent permanently causing multiple feeding.

it is a bit of an inconvenience...

y not just leave the bolt in the re-ward position?? thats kinda the same thing as taking the bolt out

I agree... I just store mine on its ass end so that the bolt remains in the back position. The main thing that destroys my detents is the Reball use.

my angel hardly ever breaks a ball... so for them to be easyer to clean by using rubber is kinda pointless. and anyway the self-cleaning eye's on the DM's are bull§§§§, it dosent work at all, so im skeptical that the feature on the one will be any better.

Works three times better

I can tell you from experience. That after a bolt chop with paint everywhere, I ran about 3-4 balls thru with the eyes off and turned em back on it worked just as good as the second I pulled it out the box.

My detents have gone bad too. This weekend I chopped 3 balls in one game. This is after about 17-20 cases.

Is it true the Ego06 detents fit as replacements?

Yes they fit some what but do move and will also double feed and sheer off.

yes, i suggest buying em from FMA they come in 10 packs so you can replace em often

I think that the detents that you buy in 10 pack are better than the stock one. Cause my sotck one bend after 2 cases...i buy new one and i have 10 cases shoot and still no wear on the detents.

errr quick question. FMA, i take it there in America?.
if they are ,think it'd be easier to get em from L.I.P.S. as there a little closer to me
Thanks for everyone's help

guys, i am going to give a suggestion to see if this helps. the blue/red detents are soft for a reason. this may lead to some bending over while the bolt is forward during storage and or shipping. during the nonplay time push the bolt back and insert a wad of paper towel in the breach thru the feedneck to keep the ram back. i am sure you ill find a big diff. on how long the detents last as the will most always regain their orig. shape.

Another quick trick if the detents are folded forward is to place the bolt in the marker from the front of the marker and let sit overnight.

Sounds good...

it's an "extra" step to storing same as removing the bolt. Kinda lame for a 'flagship' gun. I hope wdp has a more creative solution to this like having the sides of the bolt routed or something. that way, the only contact & wear factor for the detents are the balls going throug it. i dunno...something...

This is no different than the Ego's or timmy getting much better detent life by putting the bolt in backwards. This isnt required, but it saves you money in the long run.

Yeah I know, it is kinda lame... at least it's not like you have to use it during play or put some tape on a $1200 marker, but it's better than to have those parts moving back and forth during transportation, or have the bolt bending the detents in storage...
