do you have a table vise? or vice grips?
get a bycicle tube, buy it into 1 inch long segments, 2 of them, then cut them open and wash out the talcom powder. then wrap one around the shaft and clamp it down, and one afound the hammer, and clamp it, then turn it off, i sell nylon hammers too if you want one

Technix2002 and I just did a similiar removal of his stock hammer without hurting anything whatsoever. We used a chunk of automotive heater hose around the hammer and 2 wood shims on the vise jaws (small vice) to hold the ram shaft. It really went very smoothly. So don't be afraid of damaging the ram, just go slow and think about what you're doing. I will be replacing my hammer with one of crownsk8er's very soon.

I assume you are getting the STD LPR ;) It's the only way to go.
