View Full Version : benefits of smaller volumizer
im about to put a volumizer on my gun, but i was wondering what the benefits of a smaller volumizer are. Im about to put a large size volumizer on because i haerd it reduces kick the most as well as icreases the fps the most, why would anyone want something that does less apart from looks?

The compressed air propelling the paintball can accomplish the most work when the volume in the breech behind the paintball is small. As the paintball begins to move down the barrell, the volume behind it increases and the efficiency of a fixed amount of compressed air behind it to accelerate the ball decreases proportionately.
A larger volumizer delivers a longer sustained high pressure behind the ball. The "latter part" of the air to exit the valve chamber and enter the breech is doing less efficient work than the earlier air. A smaller volumizer may end up being more efficient because it delivers all its energy earlier when efficiency is the highest.
The reason that most people use medium or large volumizers is that the difference in air consumption is actually quite small, but the ROF & reduced kick improvements can be significant. I would recommed a large volumizer/short dwell setup vs. a small volumizer/long dwell setup. You may be able to reduce your LPR slightly by using a larger volumizer as well.
Hope this helps.
thanks for the help. A problem im currently having is even when i turn the minireg all the way down, my gun is still shooting at ~310fps, by putting a large volumizer and turning off the dwell, will i solve this problem? or is it something entirely unrelated to this? thanks

I hate to sound likea broken record, but are you using a low pressure tank? If you are using an 800 psi output tank that is the reason for your high velocity.
Now that we checked that, leave everything else as it is for now and drop your dwell down to around 10 or 11 and see if you can get your velocity into a reasonable range. We need to get the velocity under control before you change things like the volumizer.
yea i can try that when i go to the field because i dont have a chrono readily available. When i bought the gun i was told the tank was a low pressure tank. Is their anything i can hook the tank to in order to see what its outputting at?

Hmm, you pretty much have to have an ASA with a gauge. I have one of the shocktech male/female ASA adapters that has gauge ports in it. I normally leave it installed between the gun and the minireg so I can know the minireg output pressure. But you can also put it between the tank and the unimount to check the tank output pressure.
yep, went to the shop today and my tank was outputting out like 800-850 psi, my lp tank isnt an lp tank=P thanks for the help man

No problem. Glad I could help. Crossfire has LP reg swap and rehydro package deals now ;)
