Need help for a new computer

Lately I've been going over to my friends house to play Battlefield 2, because my computer is just plain §§§§.

I dont know anything about computers and I have yet to look up the minimal requirements for BF2.

If someone can list all of the minimal requirements for the game that would be great. Also, if you can give me a link to a good computer (does not have to have speakers, monitor, keyboard, or mouse) that would be good too.

I will be heading down to best buy or someplace so I can also get help there, but figured id ask here before any of that.

I would much rather just purchase a brand new computer so I can play the game and many of my other games.

Windows XP (32-bit) with Admin rights
1.7 GHz Intel Celeron D / Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP/ Sempron or greater
512 MB of RAM or more
8x or faster CD/DVD drive
2.3 GB free hard drive space or more
Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible (see video)
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible (Sound Blaster X-Fi series recommended )

Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
ATI Radeon 8500 or greater


I HIGHLY recommend 2GB of memory for this game. I have two computers: One is an Athlon 2600 with 512MB RAM, a 256 MB GForce 5950 and some crappy 20GB Hard drive. The other is a Pentium 4 3.4G, 2 GB PC3200, 128MB Radeon 9800 Pro, and two 300GB Western Digitals. Both run the game, but the Athlon rig chugs big time right when you get into the game. This is because of the lack of memory. Anything less than a gig is known to do this. It sorts itself out in ten seconds or so and it runs okay, but the 2 GB machine doesn;t do that at all and it's nice. I can run the settings pretty much maxed on both rigs, but the Pentium rig runs it much smoother overall.

When you do get the game, we should play. I'm a kamikaze medic and will die for your life! lol

cyberpowerpc.com is a great place. I bought a rig from them a while ago, they make nics systems.

The only game that makes my rig really try is Oblivion. But I'm pretty sure Oblivion makes every rig try. :)

if you look on the cyberpowerpc site, and you scroll down a bit(about 3/4 of the page) you will see the mega special I, mega special II, and mega special III.

Im assuming all three of those would work for battlefield 2?

Why would he get an intel mac. Hmm because their are only 4 known viruses on a mac. VS. 80,000 on a pc. Macs are less susceptable to viruses and now he can play games on the intel with windows installed. Best of both worlds. He also can go on the internet or limewire or whatever. Download what ever he wants because it won't crash like a pc will. Let's I have had 1 mac and 6 pc's. All the pc's were knew and have all crashed, some of them were only used to check email and use word. Mircrosoft is not worth it any more. Yes if you use windows on your mac you can get those windows viruses, but if you use the windows just for say messenger and online games you are golden, run trend micro and a few other things you are set. Mac's are the revolution. Just do it.

Seems to me that installing Windows on a Mac is destroying the point of having a Mac in the first place.

I don't have a problem with Apple computers, but he wants to play BF2. To get a rig that can run that game "properly" is quite a bit pricier than a PC. And what kind of upgrades can be had for Macs?

ibuypower isn't super overpriced, some setups can be built for less than i can, but when you get into more expensive rigs thnen they get overpriced..

yeah, thast what i;m gonna get for mine,geforce 8800 gts 320, there's no point in the 620 meg card, just uses too much power, sloping towards the bfg version, as it's overclocked. and if you eventually can afford it, get 2 of them and have them linked with sli

i run sli 640's(just bc i can :P), evga is better tho, and u can oc it yourself.....
