Well i've been looking at buying an Evil bolt, and i am going to get one as soon as i get paid and find some in stock. BUT until then, i was looking at my bolt and the wear put on it by the detent. I'm thinking, maybe i could get a Dremel tool (don't worry, i'm awesome with it, i make my own triggers and drops and stuff, WITH A DREMEL) but yeah, take the dremel and groove the bolt where the detent is to prevent wear on the detent. Can anyone think of a reason this would be bad?

A couple of my 'cocker bolts are grooved for the detent. I can't see how it would hurt.

unless it is done very precisely, you may loose some gas back up the feed tube....probably not much, though...

if its a stock bolt and your definitly getting a new one then no harm in trying, worse comes to wroseit doesnt workand you have abrand new bolt. adn if it works then you can do it with other bolts.

yes,
but think about it...... if he is getting a grooved in the side where the ball detent is, then it might be to tight or the ball detent is no good.....what i would do first ck out the ball detent and just put it back snug......and see what happens.......?
but you will need a new bolt......Y....well you will have drag in your breech.....this will effect your shooting rate..............because of the grooves......... to ck it open the breech and put the bolt in.........now side it back an-forth and see if it move freely.....if it does then you are golding, if not ....get a new bolt........

jeez capnut i almost cant understand what youre trying to say!
So youre saying that if you cut the groove incorrectly, you could produce drag on the bolt and hurt your ROF?
Would you say that this is an unnecessary mod for an iR3 bolt? It does sound kind of tricky, should i just leave it alone? The cobra detent has held up pretty well for me so far.

Leave it alone.......what i am saying is, if it made a groove in the side of bolt, then there is a problem with the ball detent....so one of two things: ck. the detent ball and see if it moves freely (the ball) and then ck. the deep of the detent.......

The detent isn't like gauging my bolt, there's just a little smooth line where the detent rubs on the bolt. Look at your bolt, i'm sure you can see where it is kinda polished from rubbing the detent. I'd be grooving it there.

dude, the evil bolt has a groove for a detent, and I don't recomend modifying the stock bolt.
