The title says almost everything but when I attempt to change my home page it will not save. Going through Internet Explorer it does not save the changes. Trying it through the control panel if does not save the changes. I have restarted my computer as well but this still did not allow the home page to change. I am using XP Home and whatever the latest version of IE there is, IE 5.5 I think but I am not sure. Any suggestions?

probably spyware. run some antispyware stuff and see if coolwebsearch comes up. if so, that is why it won't change.

Ok, got it. Ad-Aware Pro was not allowing this value to change.

ad aware is a good program. spybot is pretty good too.

EP, anti-spyware is good...but can also cause just as many problems with the 'wrong settings'..despite their rather bland descriptions. Make sure the account you use is identified in XP-Home as an 'administrator' account, that way as an 'administrator' you can change/modify/delete/add Windows 'system files'....

I had a similar problem once when I went to a website that installed some software on my computer that automatically changed my default home page. So I would go change it back tto what I wanted and the change wouldn't take place.
What I found out was that the software installed itself in XP's 'restore' area so every time you tried to delete the 'virus' it came back because your anti-virus software apparently doesn't go into the restore area of your computer.
So, I had to turn off the restore function. AGain search for and delete the 'malicious' software and then after that, I turned restore back on.

Ok wanna hear something really wierd, once I activated adaware again my home page changed back to what it was before i deactivated adaware. Any suggestions as to how to make this change permenent? While uninstalling then reinstalling adaware is possible it would not be my first preference to try.

Yup. Go into your configuration [the cog wheel]. Go to Defaults. There is a box for default homepage. Change that.
Click proceed. Good to go.

Don't know about adaware pro but in SE there is under the configuration menu (Picture of a gear) Under defaults you can set default home page and default search page. Change those and select proceed to save changes. If you don't select proceed, it wont change, putting you back were you started from. Make sure you go into the browser you are using and change the home page to the one you want. I know this sound obvious but I don't know everything you've tried,
