while playing tonight i had to hold the breech down so that the bolt would not stick. whats the first thing i should look at? im think the bolt is worn or the breech is too tight

Bolt pin could be too short, causing the bolt to sit at a bad angle with the breech. Try pulling it out a little.

i noticed today that there is alot of up and down movement with the breech closed. should i try a new bolt and then try the rubber mallet ? the gun has over 145k cycles on it (i bought it used with 87542)

I'd reverse that order if I were you. Mess with the bolt pin first. The breech will move a little, since there is nothing but the bolt holding it closed. if the bolt is at an angle, the friction can cause it to stick. Lengthening the pin will decrese the angle, and give the bolt a straight shot through the breech.

so let me understand this rubber mallet thing, so you guys are saying just hammer the breech with the pin in? doesn't that have potential to bend the pin? or hammer with no pin in just to align the pin holding the breech?

the only pin is on the bolt itself. grab it with a pair of pilers and twist slowly while pulling.
