View Full Version : Volumizer on my LPR?

I've been having problems with breaks in 4fly. The eyes function properly, the dwell is at 14, I have correct bore size on my barrel, I've removed LPR shims down to 1, reduced rate of fire.(Basically everything posted by Ken Crane) I was wondering if reducing the shims further and adding a small volumizer to the LPR would allow my marker to cycle at a lower pressure? I admit that I'm not using the most expensive paint on the market. Spending 60 bucks a case on weekend practices is killing me. I'm using WGP practice paint (retail $42) and my teamates with different markers are shooting it just fine. Is a volumizer on my LPR the answer to my problems?

Are the breaks chops or barrel breaks?

Check the bolt for shell/paint right after you have a break.

It could be just that the barrel isnt fitting the paint very well.

Dwell is a little high but I assume thats because you are running everything at a lower pressure.

They are definitly barrel breaks. I 've checked the bolt numerously throughout usage and never find shell or paint. The dwell was originally set lower but I increased it as to allow be more friendly to lower grade paint. I've used numerous barrel kits (freak, Pipe kit, ultra-lite) and bore sizes with similar results. I even had my tank output checked and it registered a solid 450PSI. The LPR volumizer is the last thing I can think of to reduce the cyclic pressure.

A volumizer itself doesnt change the pressure at all.

The reason why you put them on the valve side is to allow more airflow due to the lower pressure. It prevents dropoff. Since lower pressure = greater airflow needed you run a volumizer to give you more availible air VOLUME [hence the name]. On the LPR you use so little air that there is no need for the extra volume, and as the volumizer only provides the extra air, it's useless on the LPR side.

Try checking your output pressure from the minireg. It's the same threading as the tank so use whatever you used to test the tank.

Otherwise I'm not too sure. Maybe a different bolt so the air is hitting the balls differently?

Try checking your ball detents as well. Sometimes the detents get flat over time and this can cause the same thing, or the springs can be a bit too strong.

if it is defintely barrel breaks ... it could be one of the following

1. poor paint or old paint
2. brittle paint w/ cold weather
3. bad paint to barrel match
4. double feeding ... stretch ur detent springs or buy new ones
5. barrel could be made poorly .. my stock barrel had shards of aluminum sticking out into the barrel causing breaks

nothing else i can really think of ...

Well, like a I said. I'm using WGP practice paint. That's not exactly a high end paint, but it seems to be working wiht ohther people markers. I used at least 3 different types of barrels and a half dozen different bores sizes. My detents were replaced 3 months ago so they should be okay. The issue I'm having is breaks in the barrel during play. It would make sense that the paint sucks assuming that it didn't work in other markers. But it does. :notsure:

I have used blaze in my fly at tourneys and haven't had a break. Are you using it in cold weather conditions? Have you done a drop test on the paint? Try using a bore size that is either one size bigger or one size smaller.

it definatly works on both sides...

To put it simply, a volumizer on the lpr side just causes the marker to use excess air. It doesn't improve effeciency or performance, as a matter of fact it can make the effeciency worse. Not a whole lot worse mind you but enough to be noticed by a person who wants their marker tuned to perfection in both effeciency and performance.

Yes it works as in the gun will fire. But it will not enhance the performance at all. Alot of people will run a large volumizer on one side and then the medium/small on ther other side so it doesnt look as lopsided. But no, a volumizer on the LPR side will do nothing for you.
