if i got an aluminum back with stainless steel inserts would the aluminum back shrink and expand making the inserts harder to get in (aluminum shrinks) or make the back so loose that the inserts fall out (aluminum expands)? i really would like to know. thanks!

I would think that you would have to be talking some very extreme extremes! And with that, it would have to be left in that extreme for awhile.
I wouldn't think that it is an issue.

If you want he scientific numbers. The coefficient of Thermal Expansion for AL 6061 is 13.1x10 neg 6 (per degree). The CTE for Stainless Steel is just over 6.5x10-6. Since the parts you are talking about are 5-7 inches. the change between the two is the difference (AL will have a greater change then Steel will per degree of temp difference). However the degree of change for lets say going from 70 to 40 (30 degrees), the difference between the two metals is around 0.0003....U will not notice it.

alright well thank you guys, i have decided to get the alum. back with steel inserts seeing as the steel inserts give better acuracy. thanks again
