i wouldn't call AIM the best, causeit's far from it, but that's wut a majority of people use. Theres also MSN messenger which some ppl use too.

i personally use aim and msn messenger....

msn is far superior in my opinion...

there's this program called trillian that can log on to pretty much all messenger networks, i personally dont like it much but maybe that's what you're looking for?

check it out http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

You should look into a program called trillian that links all your messenger accounts together

Trillian is the best that I know of. You can talk to people with any other messanger service with it (AIM, MSN, etc.).

Sure a lot of the messenger's have extra features and functionality, etc but almost everyone uses AIM, and if you use the "feature-packed" messenger and all your friends use AIM then its pointless, but as some of the guys said a program that combines all the services like trillian is the way to go if you have to have anything besides AIM.

I like to use an older version of aim w/ DeadAIM

I use old school AIM 5.5 without all the lame spyware and have DeadAIM so I have tabbed windows and what not, that's the best option as far as AIM goes. I hate Trillian, it leaves out so many features the messengers use.

So I use old school AIM+DeadAIM and MSN Messenger. Comp boots up smooth with MSN starting, doesn't take forever for everything to come up[laptop].
