I went to screw on my CenterFlag Hyperflow 420 68/4500 air tank onto a 32 degrees drop forward and tightened it up and discovered the air was leaking out around the threads. Is this typical? I'm wondering if its necessary to use thread tape and if so, is this the primary fix for this problem? Thanks! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The threads on the ASA, or ellbow

The air is escaping from around the tanks fitting that screws into the drop forward. Initially, I did have to to tighten the elbow/collet fitting even further because it leaked there too. But, i was able to get the air to stop leaking out from around that fitting. Visually you could see what apeeared to be thread tape on the elbow fitting so I was wondering if thread tape would fix the leak around the threads on the neck of the tank. Is it common that thread tape needs to be used for this?? Thanks.

I was also thinking that maybe the O ring needs replaced on the tank. The tank was purchased new at Christmas time. Could it be the O ring has shrunk? Are there any seals that need to be inside the ASA fitting? I'm confused as to why it's leaking like it is. Thanks!

If you are saying it leaks where the tank screws into the asa, the tank oring is the only seal there. Replace it and put a light coat of lube and it should be fine. Make sure this oring is clean every time before you screw in your tank.

i just figured i would throw this idea out there.... you can stick an o-ring down into the ASA before you screw your tank on... that could solve your problem....

Even on a new tank, its still possible for an o-ring to be bad straight from the factory

You know, i was thinking about your post about putting a scope on your speed... would it be possible to just mount it to your hopper instead of the gun? you could drill mounting holes or whatever you needed..
If you Do want it on the gun itself... you could take the screws to put it on the dovetail mount Off, and put a piece of cloth or rubber under the point sight, and Zip-Tie it to your gun, so you can take it on and off without damaging the finish of your gun trying to put mounting brackets on there.

Hope i helped!

bonusballer, it's cool man. No hard feelings. I can take someone dissin' me. It's all good. I was really looking forward to trying out my Speed 06, only to discover that I couldn't stop the air leak. Talk about a depressing moment... geeesh! I'm going to guess that the problem lies with the o-ring. Initially, when I assembled the 90 degree fitting to the forward drop it did leak. I tightened it doen even further and it appeared to fix the problem. The problem I'm having now is coming from the screw-in tank not sealing to the connector. Chino, I appreciate your creativity. I will certainly give your idea a try if all else fails. Thanks guys!

put an oring in the bottom of the asa and it should stop leaking.
