Check that out, first time I heard of purposeful overclocking from the factory, but then again, I am not much of a pc know it all.

ya but how much is it gonna cost? a person could build their own custom pc that would run just as good as that for like 1800

hmmm,

i've heard of comps with much better specs, i even know a guy with one.

those alienware supercomputers, cant remember their names, but they use like Dual GPU's like 2 pci-express geforce 6800 ultras and possibly even dual amd 64's cant really remember all the specs, but the thing was a monster, and this was over a year ago... and it also costs like $8000

looks nice but its a dell and way over priced u can build one for half the price and with better stuff if u got some connections. i found a guy who used a beer cooler on his pc( as a liquid cooler) and it was like OMFG over clocked the temp of the cpu was in the - range it was freakin sweet illl post a link if i can find it again

Here is a better system...

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ $787.00
Motherboard: MSI K8N Diamond Plus $229.99
GFX Cards:ASUS EN7800GT Dual Geforce 7800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card $879.00 x 2
Memory: CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 433 Memory Kit $299.00 x 2
Storage: Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB 10,000 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 in RAID 1.5 $155.00 x 4

Grand total w/o case and power supply = 4,062.99

Add a case of your choice, SLI power supply, and a water cooling system and you have one bad ass computer. Hell, I didn't even include a sound card. That is another $400.00. Plus a keyboard and mouse ($150.00). A high-end speaker system ($400.00). And last, an amazing monitor ($1,000.00+).

God, that is like a $8,000.00 computer. :hitit:

I was gonna build one for my friend slighty better then that but got a 42 inch plasma tv instead. I would have rather had the computer. Everything except monitors was $4200, that included a Vapochill lightspeed. Was gonna clock it at 5GHz at work my way up.

Should tell him to get a vapochill he could clock it faster. Asetek(the maker of vapochill) locked a 955XE @6.15Ghz

There's a guy making a 10. something ghz computer out of xbox's. He's just linking em in series and then running linux and stuff like that.

LOL lets just say thats §§§§in crazy, 4 7800's on 2 mobos, I know a lot about comps, I've biult like 7, including the one I use, and that power is just wayy excessive, 2 7800's is too much and this comp has TWO mobos, and FOUR video cards, crazy but pretty stupid IMO.

would it be like crazy fast or just no difference

Airmack
01-07-2006, 10:52 PM
The only difference would be running games at highest settings at EXTREME resolutions.

It is like saying is a G7 really necassary or is a 06 Speed good enough...

eh, i'm 100 % certain that you wouldnt see the difference between running 2 7800's or 4 7800's or maybe even running just 1....

the software is just way behind all that power....

You really would, the FPS would be so high.

Those things need external power!

Yea for current games and apps you would see a difference between 2 and 4, and 1 is perfect for todays games, one is all you need

I have 2 6800GT's in my compy with two monitors. I run all games out now at the highest settings w/o a problem. If I only had one monitor than I would not have two video cards. I also have 2 gigs of memory which I say does help when running apps..

Dell's XPS is a great machine. But it is definately not the best.

I am on a Dell Dimension 8300 , 2.8Ghz, and ATi Radeon 9000 All-In-Wonder w/TV in/out it's old but it gets the job done.

That particular machine my friend, is by far the best of any consumer PC.

It is amazing what he is doing. There are several other people that are getting above 5.5-5.8Ghz. Here is a link to the forum.

And here is a pic of the 6.149Ghz

Geez, absolutely crazy. I remember when THG overclocked a 3.6 to around 5.0 and they used liquid hydrogen. I wonder how they cool that shizit.

Modified Vapochill. They got them down to -63*C. And stable to run 24/7.

You know what is extreme is the Virginia Tech Super computer. Built off the g5 platform and almost as powerful, but so much cheaper then the rest.
