I think a POS could be polished if it were hard enough and you applied the right amount of polish + a buffing tool.

I cant believe I just tried to conceptualize how to polish a POS.

In any case...WDP was beat to the POS polishing market by Powerlite and New Designs.

My original post was entirely a joke, but what is concerning is the prevalence of the ION at the fields that I have visited. I have not met a single player who has liked any form of Ion manifestation and yet it seems anyone who is under the age of 15 has one. I mean I don’t know of any pro endorsement (although I think strange is using them now and I believe that it is definitely a propagandizing maneuver). Then why are all these kids buying them. It appears that its the official poormans tournament marker but I don’t know tournament players who willingly use them.

Also, at this point it appears that the Ion is going the way of the Autococker with the amount of aftermarket parts becoming available for them. Once I run into replacement internals (I am a passive researcher) I think that there will exist marketing for "tournament level" replacements for every single piece.

Is this bait and switch? (figuratively speaking) For all the Ion bashing we do here at AOG, what do we do to help others make better decisions? Or do we leave young players to the SP marketing jackals?

Could we start a thread actually listing the deficiencies of the ION?

Are there really serious drawbacks? (Or is it Gardner hatred, which is justification in itself IMHO).

This is what gets me. All of Smart Parts low end production gun ends up being like that. The impulse (though a good gun) had a ton of upgrades. But after putting $700 in upgrades into the gun you still had an impulse, just a shinier one, if you will.

Though the Ion is worse. Kids buy these guns for what like $300 throw about $200 in upgrades and want to sell their gun for $475, or worse try trading me for my 05 Speed...... AND THEN tell me I would have to add some..... The impulse was atleast a metal gun....

When it comes down to it, if a kids going to start off and doesn't want to spend 800+ on a new gun. I have them look at a DM3 or an older Angel. Both are nice guns. And when your done upping the heck out of an ion you should have just bought a better gun.

:notsure: I have fallen prey to those Jackals and I'm well over 15. I wish I had waited and gone the way of the Angel. You live and learn. I've played a few rounds with one of FATBACK's G7s and I have already started my "Angel" fund. I'm thinking about getting a reflective vest and standing at a street light with a jug for donations. DONATE TO THE ANGEL FOR THE DEPRIVED FUND. This idea might "FLY".

Ps. They do have replacement internal for the Ion, the Smart Parts "Blackheart" board w/ all new tubing too..........woo 20bps and speaker for audible beep, to help in confirming settings & tourney modes. (I think that's what you mean)

Well I do think the Ion is a P.O.S.. Autocockers are awesome because I came within a hair buying an autococker than a Angel. But hey I love my Angel so it is safe to say I made the right choice, plus you can upgrade your angel 04 Speed to as good if not better than a stock G7, with G7 eyes and the Angel Force Tadao Board.

I'm sorry but I'm going to disagree with you. You can't upgrade your angel to better than a G7. Especially since there is no performance upgrade between stock fly eyes, and G7 "laser" eyes. The evolve kit was a great step forward but the gun still won't quite match up to a G7. I have a Force Fly with evolve and I'm fine with where my gun is at. I don't need the newest because my gun still is one of the fastest and smoothest guns out there.

True, however with the new AF board and G7 eyes the performance on the Angel goes up drasticly.

All the G7 eyes do is make some of the beam visible....... Not much of a "performance" upgrade per se. More along the lines of, you know right away if they're screwed up.
