Talk about different cultures. I was on a Swedish submarine once. had a crew of about 50 men and one female.

There were no separate showers, toilets or berthing facilities. The swedes' approach was, if you want to be on a submarine full of men, that's fine, but we aren't going to change things around for you.

I was in Oslo for work a few years ago, and decided that I would like to be reincarnated as a Norwegian woman's bicycle seat in my next life ;)

Is it really an 'assualt rifle" or is it just a rilfle? I dunno cuz I'm just a Navy guy but I do know there's a lot more in the rifle arsenal than just the M16.

because we all know its how "cool" the weapon looks, not how well it performs

Who gives a crap what it looks like. Looks don't mean a hill of beans when something jams every shot, that'll get you killed rather quickly. The M-16 is light, accurate, and packs a pretty good punch. Think about it, the M-16 and it's later versions have been the primary weapon of the US for 40 years, that alone speaks volumes about it's worth.

exactly my feelings el, im just a bit more sarcastic than u. the m-16 worked fine for me in the gulf, along with other weapons that might not have had the "cool" factor

Actually I did not see your post until just now however the more vets that support the M-16 the better. She's a tough little b**** that cna open up a whole case of whup ass really easy.

have y'all seen the new multipurpose assault rifle that is being introduced? I think it's supposed to be replacing the M-14 maybe (can't remember) it's very modular and with a few simple changes can go from a simple assault rifle to a sniper rifle etc.

I like the mobile personnel metalstorm gun the most, not too much info on it now, but with the right setup you can fire one million rounds a minute.

www.metalstorm.com

very cool stuff, like an electro paint gun combined with a "real gun."

In my current job, I spend a lot of time around AF security forces and Marines. I think all the services must use the same rifles. We've got some pretty wicked guns.

this is what they want to replace the M-16s

Those guns aren't even that great. They are replacing the M16 with the M4 right now.

Klassy Guy

that xm8 gun is like an autococker gone battlefield style. It uses an air return like the m16, but the air pushes a rod (the autococker ram) to move the bolt to fire the next round. Is it me, or is the paintball industry leading the us army in technology aspects (metal storm technology, and this)?

these guns remind me more and more of starship troopers.

pretty soon manny..you'll be like the guys in that movie with the dinky little chest protector armor and funky helmets fighting alien creatures.

but then again..you have your badass SAW..so that wouldnt matter much.
