I would say that it's abuse and mistreatment by the user, but there are several people that claim to also own an older ipod which still has a working screen.
I have a 20Gig ipod which has a couple of scratches on the screen but has held up pretty good for the most part. Can't say much abot the nano, haven't seen one yet.

That looked fun. They forgot the heat test, simulating leaving it in the sun. My simulation would involve fire.

I loathe iPods... maybe not the iPod itself so much as the iPod owner... anyway, I found this writing this guy, Jay, posted on his LJ about an iPod serial killer, it's pure genius.

ANYWAY ipod nano. gay. it scratched all to hell just by being in my pocket. i call apple and was told "its the plastic the nanos is made of, they r all the same" so they offered me a full refund, no exchange though. instead, i said "how bout a complimentary case" and i got a SWEET free leather case for it instead. so idc, scratches r scratches. it still works

Hey guys just a heads up on the Nano...Apple is replacing any nano that has a cracked screen on it out of box. Im tech support for Apple and this is the only iPod that is having the screen replaced..but I have no idea why some of them are coming cracked...my only guess is somone §§§§ed up at the warehouse and dropped a §§§§ load of them..but I have no idea. And to answer anyones question the nano is much better then the mini...the nano does not have a hard drive that can mess up from excessive bouncing or jostling...its solid state memory. Oh and if you guys ever get an Apple product make sure to include the Apple care with it...im being serious if you dont have that APP you will get screwed over huge..anywho Ronny out

I am a mac user, i have had far less problems with macs then i ever did with a pc, no virus's or spyware, no strange Blue or black screen of death (both have occured to me on PC's) nothing, the only problem i have with the mac computers that i use is that they are expensive, but hey you pay for what you get, and generally its worth it. my 3 brothers and myself all have ipods, my oldest has one of the first generations, my other two have 15 GB. ipods, and i have a mini. the only problem i see with the ipods is that 2 of the larger ipods have dead batteries. one is going to get fixed, the other one isn't (my little brother has Arch Enemies signatures on it and wont part with it for repair work... dont ask...) my mini is doing great, i've dropped it on concrete, puddles, its been shot by paintballs, ran over by dirt bikes, its has flown out of my jeep at 35 miles per hour, yet it only has a few minor nicks and is holding up great, the only problem is that its an older mini and so it only has a 4 hour battery life. everything about it works great, and not only do i just use it to play songs, but also as a usb drive at college, so i can bring work from like my IFS class to my dorm to work on it.
as for the whole thing about homosexuals carrying them around... i have noticed the majority of students on campus carrying around ipods, like a huge amount of them are... so either college students are gay and i havnt realized this yet or maybe ipods are just popular with everyone? ;)

Oh don't get me wrong, im just fresh out of college, there were a lot of people carrying them around. The gay / ipod comment was a joke, i just make that joke becuase i've never really gotten into the whole mp3 player scene ... i have a hard enough time keeping track of my cell phone ... cant imagine carrying around another device.
The funny thing about the ipod is about half the people have them because its a great mp3 player, the other half are carrying them around because it seems like status thing / fashion statement / fad.

The only problem i have had with my nano is a bunch of little scratches on the screen from being in my pocket but they are only noticable under the right light and they dont affect the performance so im not complaining.

all ipodss have that problem as well as the chrome back of them scraths and fingerprints show easly. i like my 20 and once they come with a 20 gig with a flash memory ill be getting that. sometimes my ipod likes to forget all the songs and start playing the first playlist. weird

A 20 gig flash memory drive....that wont happen any time soon...that would end up costing close to a grand to buy. Just note the 2 gig iPod nano 199, 4 gig iPod nano like 3 or 4 hundred or something stupid. You will see a new storage type before flash memory gets that big I can garuntee that

Ronny, the 60gb video iPod that we all saw yesterday had a HD, not solid-state memory. Mind you, it's an extremely slim HD but nevertheless was still a HD.

Actually sparco both of the 5th Generation iPod's are solid state memory units...no hard drives in either model

I was looking up the new training material at work here and it wasnt actually saying anywhere what type of storage it was...I looked everywhere but the actuall spot where is specifically states its a HD.

Nanos do have a flash (solid-state) memory. Currently, the Nano & Shuffle are the only iPod devices with this memory configuration.

The 5th Generation iPods have very very slim HD's. Just an FYI for everyone, I dont recommend getting this iPod right now....reason being is that almost all of Apple Products on their first release are riddled with issues...if your ok with getting a product that will more then likley need to be serviced 4 or 5 times have fun. Im not saying they are a crap product im just saying its the first release and its impossible to know all the problems that will show up by doing internal testing. I can garuntee that upon the 2nd release of this style iPod there will be little to no issues with it. But you didnt hear this from me
