I heard some time ago that there were replacement solenoids for 04 speeds available that were made to work better with the 4.8 volt battery pack. Does anyone know anything about this?

My brother has an early speed that has a 6 volt solenoid.

the replacement speed solenoids are 3v. supposedly they work a bit better with the 4.8v battery, though i wouldn't change it unless your solenoid was causing problems, because really, $200 is a lot...

Actually that one for $200 is the 3v solenoid and 14-way. I got a 3v solenoid from AngelParts (http://www.angelparts.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=3790&cat=0&page=1)
for $85.

effbee-> Thanks for the link. I appreciate it. I'll let my brother know so he can consider it.

Has anyone had theirs replaced and still had First shot drop off?

first shot drop off? what are the settings (LPR/dwell)? try charging the battery completely before using it. i have a speed with the 6v noid, i also have a speed with the 3v noid. both get charged before i play, i personally have seen no difference between the 2 based on the noid voltage or otherwise.

basically im saying rule out other possible causes for the FSDO before buying replacement parts that it may not need.

exactly what i was getting at, but definitely better stated... so yeah, i definitely mirror this sentiment

It's got 12 dwell and 72 psi LPR. I have tried rasing the dwell to see if that would help. I've actually raised and lowered LPR pressure just to see if that might find the problem. I've checked the LPR with my took kit, even replaced the seals and that hasnt helped.

The FSDO gets worse as the battery drains, so I'm thinking that is the problem. I dont think he should have to suffer performance if the battery is below 100% charge.

I've go so far as to check the ram, replace all seals, valve and replace all seals as well. I have even replaced the solenoid gasket. I dont think there is anything else I can try besides the 3 v solenoid.

you point to the battery as probably being the problem, but you haven't replaced that yet... i'd say start there, as opposed to getting a new 'noid...

is the battery fully charged before each time its used? i let mine go uncharged for a little while once, and when the battery read less than 100% the gun died L lol L
granted it took some time for this to happen, but still i always fully charge it before i play
