IR3 board question

Getting an Ir3 board for my LCD. Do IR3's only take Metal Hydride batteries? Or can they run off of the NiCad battery too?

I dont see why you cant power the board with one but im pretty sure you wont be able to charge it back up using the IR3 board...in fact im pretty sure you'd mess everything up pretty good trying to do that. Im no battery expert but as far as I know power from a battery is power from a battery, however charging a battery will change depending on what its made off, and I know the NiCad and NiMH batteries are very different and im pretty sure they have different charging methods, but im not sure. I know for a fact I wouldnt dare try charging a NiCad on my IR3 board.
