31 here. Just wanted to see how many veterans we have. I have not played in a couple of years and have decided to get back in the paintball scene. I have introduced my 12 year old son into it, for some father and son time. We are both pretty excited. I always had a blast playing (speed ball). Its a rush. I never tried any other type of PB play, so It should be interesting.

I'm only 20 but I've been playing for 11 years [since I was 9]?

I went from rec to fun tournament to competetive [sponsored etc] tournament and then back to rec. Now I mostly help the kids in the area out. Fixing guns, organizing some games, air fills and coaching a couple tourmanet [fun leve] teams.

38 on 9/18 (Sunday of NPPL SD!)...been playing since about 1988 when a Bushmaster SI pump was the gat and Dave Youngblood was running around in a grey/silver suit, bright blue t-shirt and a polished Carter Comp and ruining people! Those were the days.

I stopped playing for about 8 years (91-99), and have been playing mostly speedball and tournaments since 2001. We usually only play west coast NPPL events. It's more expensive, but well worth it. 1st class treatment (relatively speaking) and the competition is great.

..how far back should I go...nahh, that's too far back...let's just say, Palmers Pursuit Shop products were the GOLD standard for performance parts, and his BBT Typhoons were the turning point in the tourney scene....many of todays product can be traced back to Glenn's innovations

ok. i'm in good company here. 46. And I too play to spend time with my son. Been playing for about 3 years. Started out with a spyder in Chesapeake VA in January. It's pretty darned cold that time of the year.

It's a great game. I just feel sore all over for a day or so after a day of p-ball...

...we may be older...we may be slower...but we do have a wealth of 'life experiences' to draw upon LOL

...I too got into it way back when to have another activity to share with my son, he's just about 2 years short of being eligible for this group now LOL

...I got back into it when his "little sister" had me take her to the local field to watch a few games....that `ol bug bit rapidly and severely LOL

...it's one game that helps keep us 'youthful' and like some ones sig I saw said..."slow but fast fingers and fast marker"..something like that. combined with our deeper depth of 'experiences' to draw upon, it can make up for the 'pi$$ and vinegar' power of the youth LOL

...but it doesn't really matter, having fun is the real deal! kudos to you all :patriot:

It is great to see we have quite a few 30+ in here. I stopped by our local field today to get my sons tank filled and some of the kids were like "is he gonna play?" if they only knew. I am planning on going with my son next week for our first game together. Today he learned the proper way to hold and fire his gun. He is a little nervous about getting hit, he always saw the bad bruises and purple welts I would come home with but I try to explain to him, it is different when you are playing due to the adrenalin rushing through you. I personally think he will do great, I remember my first hit. Anyone else??

Somewhat recent pic from this summer. Been playing since '97. Back then to about a couple of years ago was playing front and now not so much. A dislocated shoulder and f-ed up knee no kinda haults that position to the mid and back. Did the shoulder thing a couple years ago Pete Rose'ing it into a snake which had nothing but sand for the ground. Knee just started this year at the begining of a Series we are in and I just hell with it I will wait it out until I see a specialist about it. Series is over next weekend so I guess I will find out whats wrong with it after that. Now I see why alot of players "retire" after their 30's. "Old players never die they just become coaches".
Maybe we should have just a 30+ section only. ha ha

At least the cases were bigger back then.

rix123
08-29-2005, 07:27 AM
Cost per case / Qty balls per case = cost per ball

150/2500 = 0.06 per ball....

60/2000 = 0.03 per ball....

..I don't know if my math is all that good, but if the sums are to be believed, paint costs half as much, but the markers of today allow us to 'use it' at roughly 3 times as fast now... LOL and in speedball that goes up exponentially due to 'laning', 'pinching', and any other tactic that utilizes 'mass quantities' of paint ....

...but as in all 'big toys for big boys', when has 'cost' been a factor when we really want it LOL LOL LOL just ask the wife (or ex-wife) LOL

El Pirata

Close enough for government work. I remember if you had someone to hook you up back then you might get paint for $0.05 per ball but not much cheaper than that. Kids today bitch about the cost of paint but are not factoring in deflation of the value of the dollar and the deplation of the overall price of paint which is roughly what we were spending back then.

About the only major difference in terms of paint if the quantity used which does contribute to the overall cheaper price. Back in the day I could buy a case of paint so I could treat me and my friends to paint for several months. Today I use 2 - 3 cases in a day.

33 here and still playing front. It does keep getting harder and harder each and every year. Thank god for advil. I was told that taking 3 advil before you play will help keep you from tighting up after. It does work... Been playing for 9 years and still love it.

Whats really fun to do is go to a new field with a real cheep talon, a 100 round hopper and some camo's. Find the teenagers playing speedball and ask them if you can join them. You'll get a real good laugh out of them. Play dumb and sandbag a game or two. Tell them your gun broke and you'll have to use your other one. More laughs. Break out the angel and take some kids to school.

Talon with 100 rd hopper - $50.00
Camo's - $50.00
The "deer in the headlight look" you get when you bunker them - priceless

just turned 33 on DEC 29, been playing since 1994 first gun was a VM-68 (thanks dave youngblood - he actually shot a carter chromed VM for a little while in that tux of his). i still miss the old VM and still look for them online but people just want to much. i did just pick up 2 minimags and setting them up old school style 8+1 harness, coiled remote, CO2, expansion chamber, NO Level 10 here i am going true old school if it was made after 12-31-99 i will not use it. the young guys dont realize what we had to put up with. they try to make fun of my mags but my 06 speed sure will shut the kids up when they start talking to much.

Hey guys! 37 here and a n00b to the angel scene.
(I have a yellow to black 05 speed that will show up tomorrow.)

Been playing since '85 and similar to someone else's post i got lit up by a fully autmatic tipmann my very first time out. Paint was $1 per ten round tube the first year I played. Of course most of us were using splatmasters/pgp's. First gun I ever bought was an F1 illustrator, one of the very first semiauto's that existed. Still have it actually.
Anyway... hopefully i will be here a lot more often as i joined the angel family.
