I dont think so. I think old iR3s have microswitches and then they started using the opto switch. So maybe you can find an old iR3 board that still uses a microswitch? Correct me if I'm wrong though

No your right...the old Mem3 boards used micro switches..they also used COPS1 which was crap-tacular. Why do you want a micro switch anywho?

not to get you excited but i dont know if you could use the thingy from a ball-mouse, seeing taht is how they work... the opic part that is

I posted it in the wrong thread, but in the old mice/mouses(which is it?) the mouse detects movement, with a break beam style thingy, the ball moves a wheel that has holes in it (similar to the leaf spring, but not a spring, and with more holes) -- - - Now what i am/was thinking is you could, seeing that your thingy broke off, you could try and replace it with the thingy from a mouse... Try that before you buy a new board... I can post a picture if you still dont know what i am talking about.

Not necesarily (sp) I think the MEM 3's had COPS 2 in them...So that shouldn't be a big deal...The switch thing is all preference...personally, I love opto-triggers. My angel and my custom e2's cocker have them and they're amazing.

The Undead has a point problem is that would be extremley difficult to do...first you have to find a mouse that operates its mouse like this..2nd you have to try and remove the light emitter and the sensor...then find a leaf spring and try and install the emitter and the sensor without breaking or or soldering something else on your board. The components inside the workings of the switch are extremley small...and I dont think a human has the ability to work a soldering iron in there with out screwing something up. It is possible...but I dont think its probable

I had a couple of old mouse’s lying around, so I decided to take some photos and show what I mean. Basically what you have broken off is an Infra-Red Receiver and Transmitter, now I don’t see why they should differ between appliances. And if you are faced with replacing the board, you may as well try, right?

Well, get hold of a soldering iron, a fine pointed/nose one, you don’t particularly want to use one of these big ass ones used for soldering metals. On the mouse board, just melt the solder and gently remove it (the component that is). Same goes for the IR3's board, although you are going to want to make sure you solder it the right way. If you look at the blue/clear thingy (transmitter) you will notice a two small pieces of metal inside it, one will be protruding further on in that the other, which is generally the "positive" one, if memory serves correct. These are basically the same - well, similar to LED's and as most people know they only work as long as the positive and negative are soldered correctly.

You can get these mice/mouse’s for about 5-10 dollars. And if it works you have saved your self a fair amount of money.

I am not an electronics expert so I am not sure if this will work, but you may as well try. I would personally try and solder both the transmitter and receiver, just in case if the one is not compatible with the other one.

Feel free to contact me if you require any more assistance.

Sorry about the crap photos on the ir3’s board, I did not want to void any warranties.
