I just picked up a Joy Division fly and the only problem I've got is that the screw that holds the back of the grip frame is stripped, aside from messing things up by trying to get it out w/ a left handed drill bit anyone have a good ideal on how to remove it?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Torx bit. The ones that look like * on the end. Take one and tap it into the hole [so you want one JUST bigger then the hole] and remove.

Otherwise you can use a hacksaw blade/dremel/whatever to cut a slot in the top and use a flathead screwdriver.

Or cut the top off the screw, remove the frame then remove the screw.

Or take it to a machine shop.

Start at the top :)

I'm not sure what the gripframe on a standard fly looks like, but on a JD the screw is sunk into the spaceframe. No luck on the torx thats actually the first thing I tried, I should have mentioned it. Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for taking a shot Vantage. I didn't think about trying to cut a slot into the screw If I can find a way to do so without compromising the frame I'll probably try that.

When you say left handed drill bit, do you mean an easy-out? If not, then that would be my next choice. I haven't had a stuck screw yet I couldn't manage to get out with one. But you'll have to be good with a drill and be able to finess it so you dont screw up your frame.

You should still be able to cut the head off. What you do is size a drill bit to the same size as the threaded part [use the one you CAN get out] and then drill the center of the screw, the head will fall off. Just like removing rivets.

If you have a machineshop close I highly recommend that avenue.

NOOO.

before u ruin the head of the screw, go to SEARS hardware and get screw-out. i bought one when my angel had a stripped screw head and it worked great.

Does it matter that the Angel sizes are metric for the screw-out? BTW I didnt look at the link yet.

I got it this one out by using a torx head on an impact. The kinds that you pop w/ a hammer while applying pressure to the left.
