View Full Version : frustrated with this A4

ok so here goes:
A4 w/ jam bolt and cp reg, 850 PSI tank
LPR 70 PSI
Dwell 17
Medium volumizer and largest volumizer
When I use this set up, I get drop off and the paint doesnt travel far (dont have a chrono, but you can tell when the paint doesnt fly far). Thats also having the reg up to like 320 psi or something close to that.
Before i had the longest volumizer on there and it was running about 50 psi with a dwell of 14, and i needed to have the input on the reg to almost 350 psi to shoot close to 300 fps, but it was crazy inconsistent.
Just dont know, any ideas guys? i really need some help

Raise your lpr. That should work since you have drop off.
First off you only need 400-450 psi into the gun not 850. Usually with that high of input pressure (all things being in order) you would have a hard time shooting under 300 fps. But anyways does your lpr creep up after each shot? Is your breech oring still in place? Have you tried going back to the stock reg and bolt?

...end your frustrations, save your money and get back in the game...send it to a MT, guranteed it will be working as designed when you get it back, `nuff said!

Thanks for the responses so far. Breech oring is in place, the lpr does not creep and I have the stock reg but no the stock bolt.
I know they are designed for 450psi input hence the after market reg to regulate the pressure down to the desired input from the minireg.
As far as raising the LPR I dont have any more shims, and the gun should be shooting great at 70 psi considering most can run as low as 50 or below. So i guess i either need to get a new tank or get a max flo or something and regulate down to about a 350 psi input and go from there....

not sure...but I did hear that the jam bolt drags, you might wanna try using the stock...also are you using a stock barrel or what size bore are you using? paint?

I had heard that too, used the jambolt in my lcd for a while and it worked great. the gun shot fine before on a 450 psi output with the cp reg, 850 psi it just doesnt wanna cooperate. I dont want to send it to the MT's just yet because I recently got a toolkit to fix it, but after playing with it for an hour or so last night im just stuck. Also if i send it to an MT it will be setup for an lp tank again, and Id have the same problems al over again. Im just not sure how to go about this. I might just give up and keep my trusty lcd, sell the a4, it worked fine on 450 psi output, sensi still works great. Gah so frustrated...

can't you just ask the mt to set it up to your liking?

I figured that they wouldnt because the recommended input is 450 PSI. I dunno, its goin for sale i think bst forums, i dont need so much invested in paintball when i mostly play rec.

your money, your gun....I'm sure they'll do it. First try to use the stock bolt to see if its the jam bolt that's causing the nusance...if that doesn't work you can even call an mt just to ask them what they think (quick fix) I'm sure they'll be glad to hep.
what does bst stand for?

longest volumizer with the lpr turned up a little and that should end the drop off. maybe try lubing everything good? like the ram and stuff.

...you answered your own question "...the gun shot fine before on a 450 psi output..", "..it worked fine on 450 psi output.." ....
...the cost of the CP reg would have been better spent towards a good LP tank. You can still go that route, sell/trade the CP reg for a good LP tank (new Crossfires avg less than $200), sell/trade the Jam bolt for stock bolt and you're good to go...
..don't give up on the A4, even if you only play recreationally, use it as designed and you won't be disappointed...

do you think the problem could be the pressure of the tank? i bought a horizontal reg to put on my gun so i can turn it down to 450 psi input from my existing tank, think this could help??

...it would seem when you tried the marker with a LP tank you had no problems, but when you began making changes to the reg, using a HP tank, etc...your problems began.
...the amount of output psi from the on-gun reg entering into the marker should be around 200-250 psi for the A4 and Fly series, not 450 psi. The amount of output psi EXITING the tank reg and entering into the on-gun reg should be approximately 450-475 psi.
...and ALL of these measurements should be done with a guage as 'guess-timating" just won't do.

Thanks rix, but you repeated exactly what i meant... I bought this a4 in the hope that because it had an after market reg it would work fine with an 850 psi tank. The previous owner used a 450 psi tank with the cp reg (dont know why) so I decided to try that reg, didnt work, but then i got a center flag doolie to regulate down to 450 psi
If that doesnt fix it... there is something wrong with the gun that wasnt there when i bought it.

...ok, sounds good in theory IF you got the right doolie...
all in all though, there is a very good possibility that it just needs a very thorough cleaning and checking. if that is outside of your comfort level, I'd send it in to one of the MT's and get it fixed in one shot rather than 'nickle and diming' yourself to death by buying this or that to fix whatever problem pops up. USPS Express mail to any of the MT's can't be more than $30 bux max, probably even less depending what postal zone you're in and who you send it to..
..believe me, in the long and short run it is just best to suffer once in sending it to the MT's (it's absence only), than to keep on suffering (absence, money, playing time) in trying to resolve the problems...

I put the doolie on the gun today, it shoots great now, Ill prolly send it in to an MT in a few weeks for a cleaning, I wanna get a feeling for how the gun shoots now... seems liek it shoots nice and consistent... really fast too. Im much happier now and Its a cheaper alternative to a new tank although a new tank will be in the near future I think. Thanks for the suggestions. Seems like it works great.
