charging problem

I recently sold a very new a4 fly to someone. I had absolutely no problems with it, it was almost new.

THE PROBLEM
when he goes to charge the gun, he says that the screen goes blank. any ideas on what the problem might be?

remember, it is a brand new gun. He's using the car charger (side question, should the car be running in order for the charge to work?)

i want to help him out as much as possible and not have it seem as if i'm ripping him off, any help would be greatly appreciated

More than likely the car should be running. Hard to say though because different cars' cig. outlets work differently. I would have him try plugging it in to charge with the car running and see if that solves the problem.
