I was chopping (yes, chopping and not barrel breaks). It was painful at anything above ~15bps, couldn't really play unless I set the max bps at 13 and turned the sensi off.
I read through all the chopping threads and followed all the suggestion in the manual on what to do if you experience chopping...
Here was my Setup:
Reloader B - 4 bat mod, mode 2 or 3 on the hopper
Dwell 14
Sensi Mode 1
LPR 55
Crossfire LP Tank
Slight click on the back of the ram when I closed the door
Ball Detents cleaned and I stretched them too
Can't remember what else you might want to know but I did have a local Angel Tech look at it and he said, "mechanically everything was fine, it's the paint I am using, the bore size is too small" (Draxxus Hellfire btw).
B.S. answer because I bought a box of his paint he said would work but it didn't matter, still chopped. He didn't really help or want to, so I'm kinda pissed...
:piss2: Alan @ General Joes in Azusa, CA in case anyone's interested.
So here's what I did to 'fix it':
adjusted the RAM so it's so far forward that I can't open the breech door anymore, but damnit, it sure as heck doesn't chop anymore... firing off 17 bps NO PROBLEM now. WTF?? :notsure:
Suggestions??? I tried adjusting the ram so far forward that it was really hard to open the door, but that didn't matter btw. I have to have it set this new way or else it'll chop.
Thanks for any help you can provide...
maybe the paint is to small and it is rolling back, and somethimes at fields there paint is bad, it has happened to me and nothin i do helps the chopping. maybe u should buy some new paint and try that, also maybe up ur psi it might not be enough to really get the ball goin and the balls r slowing down in the barrel and r coliding n stuff, thats about all the suggestions i got. hope it helps :)

Thanks Logo...
I bought two kinds of paint at two different PB stores, I'm about 99.9% it isn't the paint. The shells on both are pretty strong, both bounce pretty well, both are about .689. That seems pretty avg.
The balls are breaking right on the bolt, that's where all the paint is, it's spraying out of the breach door or the bolt gets stuck forward.
It makes sense that they might be rolling back a little because it seems to be breaking the ball waiting to be dropped in sometimes. That would explain why I have to set it so the ram/bolt are so far forward, but jeez, seems like it should work w/ .689 paint w/ the ram and bolt set correctly.... that's what's really buggin' me about this problem. :pissed:

You STRETCHED your detents, this may cause excess force on the ball, the force of the bolt plus the force of the detents when the ball goes past them may brake the balls. This is all I can think of.

yeah Klassy, maybe... but I did that to stop the chopping that was already occuring.
(I'm trying to remember if I adjusted the ram before stretching the detents, I think went w/ the detents solution last b/c @ first I just cleaned them cause I thought they might have been sticking due to age or old paint gooing them up).
Now it doesn't chop after i moved the bolt/ram forward a bunch so I think it would've kept chopping if it were the detents causing the problem. That's a good one though, I don't think I've read that solution/issue before. Thanks Klassy. :)
Still pondering this one... I'll shoot another hopper tomorrow afternoon and see if the problem persists or not (if for nothing more than just hearing that baby rip again after having this chopping problem)!

:madd: Sorry, off topic and need to vent:
I still can't get over these two guys at General Joe's...
Alan (the angel tech I mentioned before) calls over this other guy, I don't know how he got a job there, doesn't seem to know ANYTHING about PB (Bill I think?). And he and Alan are trying to tell me that all Angels really do is chop, it's just part of being an Angel owner and I should get used to it. Alan goes on to tell me he won't shoot Angels anymore... And then the other guy, Bill, chimes in and says Angels got serious drop off problems and have no accuracy. BLAH BLAH BLAH, there's more but you get the picture.
What?!? :puzzled: They got an 05 Speed hanging on their wall to sell, I'm bringing my Angel in for service if they want the business and tell me my marker is crap?!? I used to go there back when they were in Azusa, and I don't remember them being like that all. I guess I'm just not going there anymore. Maybe it was just b/c it was close to quitin' time or whatever, because they totally shined another guy on that came in to look at a gun right after I came in.
Sorry, I didn't mean to rant off topic and I don't want to change the topic of this thread or anything but I don't know how a place like that stays in business when they have to rely on happy and return customers. I work at a place that basically survives right now on Customer Service and they're just not cuttin' it @ General Joe's.
Ahh... I feel better now...

your dwell seems high enough, but maybe try turning it up like to 16 or something, might slow you downa bit, at least with thos settings but it might be easier on paint, i find it interesting your chopping so much when everything is tuned properly.

Just an update, I went out this past weekend and was hitting 19bps every game and I didn't chop once. "Something" is requiring that I keep the bolt farther forward than I should need to keep it. But right now, I'm just happy it's working. It's a little tougher to clean after a day of playing now because I have to back out the RAM to get the bolt out, but whatever! I'll get it looked at by a Master Tech in a couple of weeks and see what they say.
Thanks to everyone who replied.

Ya i look at this paint its way to small... its like .684 i dunno if thats it but like the bolt touchs 1/3 of the paint above it

stupid question, do you have the soft face bolt or the standard bolt? sounds like the very problem the soft faced bolt was made for.

I get the same crap at my local store...they're dm lovers...BUT I STOPPED GOIN, they have no idea what they're talkin bout....not sure if you've sent it to an mt yet, but you def should....Another thing I was thinkin is that it might be your sensi rod...I think the recommendation of hopper w/the a4 is an egg b/c it's more sensitve on the paint...I also heard that you could sand your rod down, but you should do a search first cuz I'm not 100% sure. I guess larger bore size paint could help w/ the rollback issue, but I shoot hellfire or anny draxxus paint (which is a smaller bore size) outta my fly w/no probs.....
A great future up would be to get it flied :bird:

yeah, id say its the ball rollback causing yoour chops. try a different soft face bolt, maybe yours just had a manufacturing defect. other options would include getting a jam ras bolt, that one is spring loaded to actually move forward a bit into the breech after you shut the breech, so to open it again you have to push the bolt back into the rotobreech section with your finger or a squeegee. ive heard ok things about em, but theyre also rumored to have bolt lag when the gun really gets going, due to a soft spring inside or somethin.

yeah...my mt said the RAS has bolt lag....but I've read plenty of good things bout them.

I agree w/ you all, I think the ball is rolling back and the next ball in the feedneck is sticking down too far and getting chopped by the bolt. When I set the ram too far forward I don't hardly see any of the next ball sticking into the chamber and it rips without incident.
I was going get it flied, but damn... 19bps w/ sensi, how much faster do I need to go?!?
I don't know if I can justify to myself spending $300 for eyes, esp if sensi is working this good. Can someone sell me on the fly conversion if I'm already shooting 19bps? What's that really going to do for me? Is it just extravagance at this point?
If I do get the conversion done I'm going to send it in this Saturday to Ken. I'm sure he'll figure it out if that's the route I go...
Thanks again everyone.

before i sold my 04 speed i toyed with the idea of having it flied, but i got to talking with eric of angelparts.com and he told me that if i wasn't chopping paint then there was no reason to have the work done. so in short if your shooting that fast with no chops then don't waste the $$.
in case your wondering i sold the speed to get a flied MT Force4 in the graphite to silver fade. :patriot:
Before I had my a4 flied I was shooting around 19 bps with no chops. But I had to replace my sensi rod twice, and when I sent it in to be flied the sensi was broken again. It wasn't a big deal because I would just turn sensi off, and cap the board at 15 (plenty fast enough). IMO The eyes are just way more reliable. Also even though I was shooting at what the gun said was 19 BPS it feels like a more consistent rate of fire now then it ever did before I had it flied. Ken also did my gun, and I absolutely love it. It freaking Rips. I have had mine flied for about 8 months now, and no problems.... Fly it, and you wont regret it. I also think he will be able to sort out your chopping issue while the ram is correctly adjusted...
Good luck.
