I went to a tournament a week ago and my IR3 behaved very bad. It started a few days before the tournament when I charged it and fired it to see that it was functioning normally. At this time I noticed that the top block in the battery indicator started to flash while I was firing but other than that it was working fine. I charged it some more and went to the tournament with my team.
When we came there it turned out to be -31 degrees celsius(-24 fahrenheit) and not that much warmer inside the building where the tournament was to be held since they had trouble with the heating. The next day when the tournament started the temperature had probably risen to about -5 degrees celsius(23 fahrenheit) inside so it was still cold. When i went to chrono my marker it was completely dead and a lot of other Angels and other markers had big problems. Because of the cold I thought it was the battery that had given up and during the day I borrowed other markers to be able to play.
When we came back to our rooms I started charging it again and when I powered it on after that it started up nicely. I put it in LIVE-mode and pulled the trigger a couple of times and then it went dead on me so I decided that it was a problem with the battery and continued to borrow markers the next day.
Back at home I decided to measure the current of the batterypack and to my surprise it read 6.96V and after charging it a little more it went up to 7.05V and that should mean it was full (5NiMH cells x 1.4V = 7V).
Powering on the marker it would boot normally with the exception of the battery indicator going down to half full while the display was lit and back up to full when the light turned off. Putting it in LIVE-mode I would be able to fire about 3-30 times and then it would go dead and you would only see the contours of the battery indicator and alarm states on the display. After a while the blocks in the battery indicator would come back showing full. For each time you powered it on it would fire less times until it would shut off even before you could put it in LIVE-mode. Measuring the current of the battery pack at this time showed it to be 7.03V. So what I first thought was a battery problem now looks to be a problem with the board.
Is there anyone on these forums or a tech that could give me some tips on what to do? Is it the board I have to change or is there something else that could be the problem?
The marker is an IR3 C&C bought in may 2002 and the board is MEM3.
