View Full Version : Basic Overview

I am thinking about buying an x-box specifically for this game and I need a basic overview if the whole thing. Specifically:

Can you play against the x-box itself instead of online?

Do you have a "duck hunt" style light gun to control where you are shooting?

How much does it cost for online gaming? Does this change based on how frequently or rarely you play?

How does it connect to the online community?

How much am I looking at for the whole deal, x-box, game, live stuff, etc....?

One more thing, what specifically do I need to buy? I am a blundering novice so I will probably not have a clue what a GX234 is or does.

1. Well what game are you looking at playing. Some games have bots where you can play against the xbox, others just have multiplayer where you play your friends and then theres the games that go online.
2. I dont believe there is a duck hunt style gun out there. If there is its not to popular.
3. I think it was 60 with a 12 month of online gaming. the way it works is you pay for a monthly package to play online.
4. Im not to sure on this one but I think you have to connect it to the modem using a wire or you can buy a wireless adaptor.
4. xbox is 150, xbox live 60. games are 50 for new games and 20 for old games. controllers are 30

I connect via cable to the internet and have a wireless router for my laptop and one of my pc's, can I use this same wireless router to connect to xbox live?

I am not too clear exactly what you are refering to as a bot? When you say the xbox is $150, and live is $60 are you refering to some sort of hardware I have to pay in addition to the $60 a year for live? I'm not big into gaming and the only reason I am getting an x-box is for the paintball game so additional games are not something that's high on the priority for me..

xbox live (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5872264&type=product&id=1059574087300)
bots are A.I. that you could play against by yourself in multiplayer mode. but greg hastings doesnt have multiplayer. It does have xbox live where you play anyone around the world who has the set up. As for the wireless adapter that you have im not sure if that will work you might have to buy the wireless adaptor thats made for the xbox.

Yes, you can go through the entire single player game, which is basically a career that starts you out in 3-man Rookie and advancing you through 5-man and finally to 7-man Pro. The 3-man starts out pretty much with basic equipment and in the woods. You then use tournament money you win to buy better gear as you progress through to NPPL 7-man fields.

Do you have a "duck hunt" style light gun to control where you are shooting?

No, but the controls are set-up rather nicely.

Xbox Live is either like $5 per month or $60 for a year subscription. You are going to need a head-piece, which you'll need to buy seperately. Don't buy the full starter kit though because every game that is Xbox Live enabled has everything you need to set up an account. It doesn't matter how often you use it, the cost is still the same.

How does it connect to the online community?

There is a LAN port in the back and it needs to either be connected to a router, directly into the cable modem/DSL, or you can use a wireless router, which might give you some lag depending on the quality.

How much am I looking at for the whole deal, x-box, game, live stuff, etc....?
You are looking at spending in the neighborhood of $300 for the Xbox (which comes with a controller), Xbox Live subscription (I figured in for 1 full year), the Game, Headpiece.

Happy Gaming.

In general I shy away from those things that are specifically designed or made for a thingie such as in this case the xbox. The answer is that you don't have to buy the special xbox endorsed wireless adapter.

In the end, your xbox will connect to your wireless network just like any other component you have connected. While most people have only computers and maybe printers, the possibilities are increasing now. For instance you can connect your pc to your TV via a wireless media center and so the xbox just looks like another component on your network. The setup is pretty simple. In my case, I just hooked the adapter to the xbox and it was done.

Computer geek, tell me how. I have a spare wireless USB connector that I was hoping I could make work if I end up getting an xbox. Since you're in Chesapeake I could sport you some gas money to hook me up. Maybe we can meet at ATS and have a little fun beforehand then stop by my place to hook up my xbox, after I buy it of course.

That's a great idea except....

I'm now in Albuquerque NM.

All you have to do is get the adapter (Best Buy for example) it's called a wireless gaming adapter or something like that. If you're so inclined for the high pressure sales tactic, you can ask the guy at best buy for the correct thing to buy. Then, it plugs directly into the back of the Xbox. Turn it on, and if it's like my case, it worked with no additional effort.

I'd send you a link to an xbox support forum but it's on the other computer. you can google and I'm sure you'll find plenty of help out there.

Here's a link:
http://www.xbox-scene.com/

you should find all the help you need here. But be forewarned, the forum links you will find at this web site will connect you to some forums where the moderators are vicious (sp?) They will eat you alive if they think you should have done a search before asking your question(s).

Greg hastings DOES have multiplayer. Use just need a link cable to hook up two xboxs together and can play against the xbox connected(that is if they both have the game inside them).

I actually believe there is a "gun" controller, I saw one a while back on the xbox accessories section of the best buy website. If you get a xbox solely for the purpose of playing GHTP then in my mind you are making a serious waste of money, buy some gun upgrades or something. If you were buying the xbox for halo or something then that in my mind is worth it, GHTP just isn't as polished in the coding scheme of things for me to consider dropping 200 bucks for it. It is your money, do what you want. Don't get me wrong GHTP is a good game, just not great. All of this is personal feelings, you can regard me as a complete idiot if you wish, I perfer you don't, but whatever floats your boat.

You could also wait for the sequel, which will be available on more than just the Xbox. Not entirely sure if it will only be sent out for the next gen consoles or if it will be available for the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube.
