View Full Version : Flied Speed or 5peed???

My '03 Speed has proven to be the most reliable marker I have ever had to date...

I loved (and still love) the milling on it when I got it...and I even like it compared to the newer A4, 5peed and G7. The only ones I like more are the Force4 and older IR3 Fly's.

That being said, do you think it would be more practical to sell the old Speed and buy a new 5peed? OR get my old Speed Flied. What are the pro's and con's?

I recently got my Force4 converted and I've shot a few of my friend's 5peed and they shoot identical in my novice hands... Should I expect the same sort of performance from my converted "old" Speed???

Thanks.

get the 05 speed.

Can you elaborate a little more??? Is the 5peed "better" than a flied Speed with laser eyes and Full Force Valve???

dude, i feel the exact same way as you. i love my speed so much (it's my first high end marker, so there's much sentimental value) and i think it's the best angel milling yet. i've never had one problem and it's always treated me perfectly. i've come to the decision that i don't want an 05 speed. i've boiled it down to either getting my beloved Speed Fly'd (euro'd actually, as i prefer the led boards) or getting a JD Fly. something in me definitely doesn't want to abandon my gun though. it's a tough choice. good luck making your decision, i know the pain you're going through

Finally someone who understands!!!

Well I can't say the Speed was my first high end marker... I had an IR3 and a RatPulse (which I still have)...but when the Speed first came out I had to have it... I didn't dig the mill job of the A4, but loved the Force4...not lovin the 5peed or G7 so much.

Anyways, here are some rough estimates...

I could probably sell my Speed with A4 board, volumizers, flash tank/gauge, fang grip, Force backplate for like $550 (which is always a hassle)...and buy a new 5peed for like $1,000. So I need to come up with $450.

OR I could pay $299 + shipping there, and $15 shipping back for the Eye Conversion. $325 + $30 for the laser eyes + $30 for the full force valve...so about $400.

So I guess the question is the mill job and the "better" performance of the 5peed worth the $50.

Does the new 5peed outperform a converted Speed?

The converted Speed will have the LCD board and the LaserEyes, which I don't think the 5peed will have... Need more suggestions and information before I decide to sell or send to Eric at All-Star. Thanks!

i have a converted speed and all the guys at my loacl field shoot 05 speeds, and in all honesty they csnt believe how fast my gun is, many still believe it has ramping or something, to tell you the truth they will preform almost identical, you just have to figure out which you like better, also try the 05 trigger and see if you like it better but cause thats the only real big difference between them, aside from milling and the fly internals of the 05.
and yeah i was in the same boat when the 05 came out i wasnt sure if i should just sell the 04, or get it flied, but i opted for the euro conversion with laser eyes and the thing friggen mows. Ken's the man.

Here in good ole britain, we're jsut bringing out a new Conversion for the older angels, mine is first on the list to get done...It could'a been get a speed 05, or get this for £100 ($200) cheaper... personally i much prefer the look of the 03/04 speed to the 05, waaaaaaaaay too plain for me :) only thing thats good is the standard blade trigger!

I couldn't agree more... Looks like the conversion is going to become more and more a reality.

Flied speed... You dont get the whole intelli option with the 5peed, which makes me sad...

...the conversion give you the same engine as the Fly or 05 Speed series, i.e., the newer board & software and the eyes that they use and all of the benefits (speed, lower pressure, optical ball detection, etc.) depending on which board you get, LCD or LED.

With the Fly board you also get the hopper port if you decide to go intellifeed, with the 05Speed board you don't have that option (intellifeed can increase your potential ROF significantly)...

...if you have the MT magnetic trigger mod done during the conversion, your performance potential in regards to ROF will also increase significantly (I prefer it over the 05Speed trigger).

...IMHO, get the conversion, it will radically improve your marker and the performance potential is comparable or equal to a Fly or 05Speed...you only retain the slightly heavier weight and taller profile of the 03Speed, but you're already used to that so you won't notice it...and you 'know' how it handles already, just imagine what it would be like if it was FASTERRRRRRRRR............. that's what the conversion will do for you.

...and the conversion also includes the Deluxe tune-up...basically a complete rebuild of everything else and new seals/valve installed, basically a 'new' marker when it returns :)

..either way you can't go wrong, and if you get the 03 fly'ed, the resale value will go up significantly if you decide you want to sell it.

Or so you reckon :p

Personally, I'd make it fly rather than TRY and sell it - things never seem to sell for what you think they are worth ;).

I'm not much of a salesman, and so you are probably right...and I know the minute I send it off with UPS I will have sellers remorse.

I was wanting to edit my original post and make it into a poll, but that feature is no longer available to me... I wonder if a mod could help me out, because I know many people are contemplating the same thing I am...plus it would be interesting to see the numbers and I would put something in the 05 Speed forum to try and get less biased replies.

Yeah I thought about doing that, but I didn't want to get flamed for starting too many posts about the same topic...

Honestly if you like your speed just get the conversion. I have a converted force. But instead of getting laser eyes(have no performance enhancement) get the MT Mag mod. The trigger will be smooth and crisp. Its a real nice feel. But its your gun and everything in paintball is your choice.

to tell you the truth flied guns shoot faster than stock eyed guns

Yeah I can believe that...I definitely like the 5peed and G7 triggers better than on my Speed or Force.

I remember reading somewhere that the eye position on the MT converted Angel's were better positioned to read the paint more accurately??? It could be bogus, I don't know.

Well I made the decision last night to send it to Eric at All-Star this morning. Fly board and LaserEyes here we come. I hope it makes it back to me in one beautiful piece... Now it's the waiting game all over again... I hate this part, but at least I have my Flied Force4 to use.

does the fly board have ramping?

jdp72
05-21-2005, 11:38 AM
I don't think it does, and if it does then it's not really a feature that I have any interest in knowing about. I like the stance that Jim Drew (Wicked Air Sportz) takes any time someone asks him when he is going to start adding ramping and rebounding features...

oh oh - please tell me more - I am VERY anti-ramping you see ;)

i think stock the Fly board doesn't have ramping, but you can get it flashed by the MT's with new PSP software, so it would have ramping (to 15bps) and other modes (full auto, etc)
