I use a pair of pliers, open the jaws and push down on the top of the collet. If that doesn’t work start turning the hose, THIS WILL RUIN THE HOSE, but it gets it out.

Note that every time you take the line out, you dramatically increase the likely hood it will blowout and/or leak. If possible try to cut a fresh section if you have enough length, make sure the cut is clean and square though.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to remove macrolines, especially if you jambed it up into the fitting. If you can't get it out by holding the ring closed then try twisting it. I've used a vise-grip (carefully) on occasion to help hold the ring in place while I removed the macroline.
Also, applying a small amount of lubricant to the end of the macroline (I either use Dow 33 or 55) can help lengthen the life of the internal o-ring and make it a bit easier to remove the next time. No problems with leaks or blown hoses after using the lube.

I switched to steel braided with quick disconnect fittings, my macroline was giving me grey pubes.

Steel braided is by far more reliable, i use either or. Only reason I go with Macro is because I use the swivel fittings and get get any length and configuration I want easily. Also it's light, and steel braided hose is like a cheese grater in your gear bag. It will scratch the piss out of anything it rubs against. I put electrical tape around it, even if the gun is wrapped up.

I haven't used it myself since I had long since converted to macroline to prevent scratching my ano but it'll probably look a bit better over steel braided than electrical tape.
