So I got a new job since I graduated top of my class [for those that remember my "out for a while" thread].
I work for North East Timber Co. Ltd as a Harvester operator.
It's kinda cool cause I can make my own hours. I work mon-fri and I can go in on the weekend if I want some extra hours. Right now I am working 50 hour weeks but I am taking someone to her prom so I am gonna go 80 hours the next 3 weeks for some plane ticket and limo cash. [check the girlfriend thread for updates!]
I get a nice 4x4 work truck and a gas card so everything is paid for =)
Right now the wood we are cutting is kinda annoying as it's all small junk and rotten. But we get paid by the hour and the landowner wants it cut, so we dont ask questions.
The next lot we are cutting, the trees are so large we will have to leave as many standing as we cut because they are too large to fit in the head [and we can cut up to 18" with that head]. Thats a big tree!

Wednesday it was a wonderful 80+ out, and I even managed to take my shirt off and get a tan. Thursday I woke up at 5:00am to a snowstorm. Not fun =(
My co worker Jeremy, what a character. Here he is demostrating the hazards of trying to walk in the woods. Ironically he tripped over a brush pile just as I was taking a picture.
My lunch. How exciting.

Yeah it's really not like work to me, until I either have to haul 60lb barrels of hydraulic oil in a mile or so from the pickup, or we break the stupid 215lb rotator motor and have to haul it out to the road over the brush and stumps.

Looks like heavy metal. The joysticks prove that we are turning into a Nintendo society. I hate to say it but it's almost May, what's that white stuff on the ground? Been to Colombia lately?

60 degree difference overnight? Effff that! Send my back to the tropics. Hell, I'm getting cold just thinking about the cold.

Take me with you Sean, I hate the cold. It's finally above 70* again so I think I'm going to go work on my tan as the boys forgot to pick me up this morning lol
I was supposed to go help put in a part but I guess I have the day off instead

Anything below 75 I start getting cold. I hate the winter. The endless summer is the place I always liked living. 6 years was not enough.

congrats Vantage, yet another occupation to add to your impressive list. my dad worked as a forester for id say 15 years before he got laid off. id go into that line of work myself, but sadly there isnt too much demand for it right now.
btw, nice clean floor of your cab

Haha those are the tools I use constantly, rather then having to climb over brush piles to the other side of the machine and dig out the toolbox.
There are a couple hoses and two bolts that work loose and have to be checked every couple hours so those are the wrenches and the rachet.
The tape measure is for checking lengths and diameter of the trees as there are different grades and each is piled seperately.
If I think of it I'll nab some more pictures and get some of my work truck too.

ive had to clear lots before, never got to use a crane or anything but i got to use chainsaws and drive a bobcat. man i love bobcats you can pop wheelies real easy and its also fun to load the front too much and tip over frontwards. I kinda liked it. If i get to play with chainsaws its always goodtimes.

*sighs* Preston look what you started. Technically it's an excavator, but it's been retrofitted with a Risley 'Rotary Saw Slingshot' head.
Now it's a Harvester.
Here is one of the trucks I get to take home for going to work and back. And my MT shirt =)
