Ok
1. You shouldn't need to grease anythig yet, not with only 8500 shots on the counter.
2. As for oil put 2 drops in the ASA, 1 in the exhaust valve hole, air up the gun and fire it about 30 times and you're done.
3. And the scratches in the breach area are normal especially with an aftermarket bolt (Cobra, R-11, etc...). As long as the bolt isn't sticking don't sweat it.
Enjoy your new baby!

The grease: After you have done maintenance on your marker like LPR, RAM, ASA, Spool on 14 way valve or Snap ring (maintenance meaning after disassembly of any or all of those mentioned, cleaning and then reassembly of those mentioned) when reassembling these items the grease is used for the lubrication. It does not take much grease to do the job. The oil is standard for basically any pnuematic system but we use special oil that is compatable with the recommended grease. So get the Angel tool kit, works for LCD and IR3, get some recommended grease, I use Dow33. Oil- Gold Cup, Love Juice or Kermode 's synthtic KC Trouble Free are some to look at. (I think Gold Cup is a mineral base but still recommended) Anyway... My stock bolt also made scratches on my Brand new IR3... I use the R11 bolt right now. Play safe have fun...

Gold cup? You may as well be using vegetable oil in your marker, it would work better. That stuff is horrible!
KC Trouble Free is the only way to go. Check out kermode's website for more info. read here:

i believe the iR3 instruction manual specifically states that 'any 100% synthetic oil' is acceptable for lubing purposes.
Is it pretty easy to do maintenance on the IR3,...I'm afraid I might mes something up. I'm mechanically inclined ( I rewired my landcruiser form scratch), but I know nothing about the IR3 as far as maintaining it.
I can send it to Cobra, but if it's minor in nature, I'd rather save the postage. If there is a chance of screwing it up, then I'll pay the postage and chaulk it up as insurance. Your thoughts?
Its very easy to do.
It consists of Setting the LPR pressure, adjusting the hammer position, and adjusting the snap ring. Also every once and a while you might want to gut and clean/lightly grease the mini-reg. It gets pretty dirty sometimes.
Directions for all this are in the manual. If you don't have one then you can download one off this site. They are all very simple to do. Also I would search these boards because I have seen many threads that answer your questions. Also to do this maintence you will need the Angel toolkit and a pair of C-clip pliers. The toolkit is $50 and I found a pair of pliers for like $5 at the local hardware store.
You may want to send it to Cobra depending on the price of postage. I'm about to do the same thing but I'm approaching 30,000 and in the midst of tournament season.
The reason's you may want to send it to Cobra.
They do it free twice a year.(just postage)
No warranty worries.
Depending on your Angel experience you may not recognize a part that needs replacing; which Cobra will replace for you.
Peace of mind that it's being done right.
By the way, Mamba's are dead sexy.

Does anybody know if white lithium grease will work?

keep in mind... white lithium grease is a petroleum based lubricant.

i thought white lith was acceptable for greasing the LPR, Minireg and ram orings?

silicon based oil is OK to use as well
I have seen silicone based lubricants, but they still say that they contain petroleum based distillates. Anybody have any input on those lubes?

I dunno, i just use boiled off bacon grease. Keeps everything moving nice and smooth, and when i clean out my gun i can spread the goo on a cracker.

I would have to agree love juice is the best, but not very economical at like 6 dollars an ounce, when there are other comparable oils for tht price and you get a lot more.

Love Juice works best

I would use (and do) the following for the internals: WDP LoveJuice, and Dow33. By that I mean if I have to take out or apart and rebuild the LPR, Mini-reg, Ram, etc.
To put "through" the gun I would use KC's. This is around every 10,000 shots I put 2 drops in the ASA and one through the exhaust port.
GoldCup is crap and gun oils are even more contaminated.
Mo's have their Royal Rat Ranger "Rat Juice" that is essentially Dow 33 and works very, very well. I think it ends up being a bit cheaper too. Check it out here: http://www.mospaintball.com/list.asp?t=subcat&catid=709&subcatid=3824

Then again we all paid top dollar for our markers to get the very best. Seems ridiculous to complain about $6 to get the best grease to maintain it.:puzzled:

Funny where people decide to go cheap, maintenance is too important. I take care of my gear, my gear takes care of me. It's an understanding we have.

Ok, about to add my dumb question. You talk about the KC thru the ASA and exhaust port - I understand and do that with my LCD (I just got an IR3), I dont understand what you mean by greasing the internals. I mean - isnt the KC reaching the internals when we apply the drops?

This might be a little off the topic, but...is there a detailed guide about the maintenance somewhere? I bought my IR3 used, it works fine but since I've shot like 10.000 now, I'd like to go through it. If anyone has a guide with preferably pics, please do let us know.

that would be in reference to a greasing maintenance, not an oiling. You only need to grease it about 40-50k shots. Oil should be about every 5 or 6 cases.
