View Full Version : Strange wear after my first few dozen balls...

I have an important question...I took my brand new 05 speed out today and noticed when cleaning my gun that there is a wear mark about a half inch long in front of the breech up to the ball detent on the left side. It may have been there prior to actually using it. Is this a normal thing to see as wear or is this unusual? I have only shot 20-50 balls through it so this just seemed wierd to me...
Please let me know!!!

Here is a pic so i can make sure we are all on the same page and what I am seeing is what others have been telling me is just normal wear...
Sorry it is not clearer but you will get the gist!
Thanks

i have the same problem too. it got to me at first but it doesn't hinder the performance of the marker. not too sure what the problem is. maybe some oil got onto the bolt that made it expand just a little. but i still think its pretty common. i wouldn't worry about it too much. like i said, it doesn't hinder the performance of the marker.

just wait till you have it a while longer its just where the bolt wears on teh breech, after some more playing you'll see thre breach start to wear in like that

breech alignment..
Pakman, I fail to see how breech wear is caused by the breech alignment. Perhaps expanding on your comment would enlighten us all even further.
"breech wear"
Welcome to Angels. Unfortunately, breech wear is your worst enemy. Due to the rapid movement of the bolt within the breech and the tight fit associated with the bolt in the breech you're going to get breech wear as you continue to cycle the marker. Some wear quickers than others, some will wear right away. It's possible a piece of debris, sand, dirt, grit, etc. was on the bolt on breech wall. As you shot the market it caused this wear. Example?
Checked the enclosed photos. The first two are from a Joy Division Fly with approximately 85,000 cycles. The third photo and fourth photos are from a Graphite Fly with approximately 45,000 cycles.

The used speed I bought has over 250,000 cycles and has only about three light wear marks in the breach. It seems to me that wear on something mechanical with high speed moving parts in inevitable. However dirt and debris will with out a doubt speed up that wear process, it would like be like having a piece of sand paper in there. Clean gun, hopper, and feedneck after playing to minimize the chances of this happening.

I will add that the same wear pattern exists on both speed 05's we have. And they are both relatively new markers.

does it effect performance of the marker? no, so who cares, as long as its not on the outside. lol

some have more some have less, just a matter of how it all lines up.
I see wear marks as good things, its the movement of objects to the place of least resistance.

The delrin itself is softer than the anodizing on the marker. Only one thing causes scratches like that and it is dirt. While most are pieces of dirt that cause it are microscopic it still most definately came from dirt. You should check your bolt for slight burs indicating that a tiny spec of dirt is imbedded into it. I should also mention be careful where your squeegee or barrel swab has been because cleaning the paint out in the middle of a game we sometimes tend to be less than careful just as we only want the paint removed so we can start slinging paint again.
I would also warn people, you should already know this, about picking up paint off the ground as well as being careful when loading your guppies with dirt covered hands. I am not ever going to claim I have always had hospital sterile hands when loading guppies but I will always brush the dirt off before loading guppies.
Now the question was posed whether it would effect performance, Yes it will effect performance the more the breech gets worn. Is the average person going to notice? Probably not. The scratches create drag for the bolt moving forward and back thus using slightly more air or air pressure. Also the more wear there is on the breech the less the breech will be sealed for air leaks when firing. How much of a difference in air efficiency is it going to be? Probably at the absolute worst breech I have ever seen, rental tippmanns come to mind, you might be talking about a shot difference of 5 - 10 balls less per air fill. Is it worth worrying about? Only if you want the breech of your Angel to looks brand new and pristine.
