I can't afford a G7 and I already own a 05 speed. Much like everyone else here on the forum, I have seen that there has been a lot of speculation and also wondered about whether G7 parts will fit in the speed. While I can't afford to own two Angels, I can afford to upgrade. Yes, I know that I could sell my baby and put the money forward to by the G7. I am also well aware that buying parts and putting it in my speed will cost more than just buying the G7. But, it is MY baby and I'm not willing to consider selling it. (dusts off an imaginary speck of his baby with his microfiber cloth) So what if my constant polishing has turned the dust anno job into a gloss coat?!?
Anyway, after looking through threads here on the forum and comparing the parts diagrams in the G7 and Speed manuals, I can conclude some items.
- The ram won't fit without extensive milling. I don't know if the ram's OD (outside diameter) is even the same size.
- The LPR spring stack is made differently (but still works the same)
- The grip frame looks virtually like the speed grip frame except the number of holes in the back are different (for charging, buttons, etc.)
- The solenoid appears to vent air sideways instead of down now.
- There is a hollow space in the speed that could accomodate the 4.8V battery pack.
I know that WDP has in the past made every possible attempt at making parts in newer generation markers be as backwards compatible as possible with older markers. So, on to the questions:
1) Besides the solenoid being changed to vent sideways, does anyone know if the G7 solenoid has the same operating voltage as the Speed solenoid? (it may be possible the response time may be different)
2) Because of the precise positioning of the ram, is anyone even considering retrofitting a speed or a A4 FLY for that matter with this pin? This assumes that the ram is compatible of course.
I am thinking that if I somehow had enough money to purchase the grip frame with the board, battery pack, LPR, had my body milled to accept the pin for the ram, and install them into my speed, I might have something that resembles G7's frankenstein sibling.
Can anyone answer those two questions (and if a MT could concur with that answer)?
Does anyone see this as a possiblity like retrofitting for eyes on older angels?
