Okay, somehow I have some Yourdomain.poop thing on my computer. I try to get into the chat section and it redirects me to a bunch of links w/ the word "chat" in it. It's really starting to piss me off. I've almost put my fist through the screen a few times just trying to get here. I know this isn't the best place to ask, but it's one of the few sections I could actually get into.
I just put the newest Norton on here and spent hours last night w/ adaware crap.
Help, please!

It's payback for shooting that Impy lol ;)

You get anywhere at all with Norton or the adware or is it doing the same thing over and over?

I'm gonna move this to general chat so you might get some more help on the subject.

I had the same thing from a different web site if I understand what you're saying. In my case, when I would start IE, my home website got changed to some renegade website and no matter how many times I changed it, it changed it back to the bogus website. Turns out it was a Trojan. I used Mcafee antivirus to do a complete scan of my computer and got rid of it. And then, HERE'S THE KICKER I had to turn OFF system restore because the trojon had imbedded itself in the system restore area (because Mcafee can't get into or mess with files in the system restore area) in order to keep it from coming back. Otherwise, it would come back a couple of days after I ran mcafee and deleted it.

Will also send via email.

if u dont alrdy have it go to www.mozilla.com and get the free download there, then once ur done installing it go into control panel>add remove programs>windows components and get rid of Internet Explorer. Reason for this is Mozilla is a lot better against spyware and virus' compared to internet explorer which is a virus magnet.

Son of a biscuit eater! I finally got McCaffee on here, and Norton, and Spybot, and Adaware, plus I'm running Mozilla and I STILL can't get rid of this thing! I'm going to have to try to get all of my pictures and work files saved to a CD-R and wipe this sucker. That's gonna be a P.I.A too, because I can't get to all the files right now either, keep getting some microsoft error and some C+++ message then nothing. Can't get into My Computer, Control Panel, none of it! My Desktop is screwed, too. Just a big blank white screen. It'll show my desktop photo (a nice one of my team breakout at the first EXP event) without any icons, then the icons come up and the pic is gone. This is really getting old! I've spent a total of about 9 hours on this problem from last night and tonight. Any other suggestions? My email is golkpr@hotmail.com

Whats the exact problem that your having? I'm not sure about he YourDomain.poop issue. If you could state the exact problem, I probably can help you out.

If you do decide to re-format your HD. Set up your HD into 2 partions. Install all your system and programs into Partion 1. User Partition 2 for all of you pictures of miscellaneous data. This way in the future if you need to re-install the OS, you can wipe out Partition 1 and still keep partion 2 intact....

my guess is spyware, and once u get that on ur comp there is no way to get completely rid of it, besides reformatting the drive...

If it's a trojan as in my case, mcafee will get it BUT you must turn off system restore to successfully rid your computer of it (see my note above).

I'd try that before I reformatted the hard drive.

DL the latest version of Adaware, preferable a paid version. I am using their paid version Adaware SE Pro which comes with adwatch that constantly monitors stuff like that and prevents most from happening. Also make sure you run a full system scan when you use adaware.

IMHO you no longer need adaware if you have mcafee virus protection as it will locate the spyware more effectively. (at least more effectively than the for-free version)

I'm on a buddy's computer right now. There is a browser hijacker that picks up on key words (chat, check, money, cash, antivirus, etc.) that are just one of the words in a hyperlink. When the link is followed, it takes you off to some other "search engine" that I'm sure is full of even more virus/spyware crap. I've run adaware, norton, mcaffee, spybot, I'm on mozilla... .... none of it has worked. Today I can't even get on my computer. It says that it's "in use by another user" and asks for the computer lock password. The problem is, if I try to type in the box, nothing happens. No letters show up, no asteriks, nothing.
All the pics of my kids and family are on there, my checking balances, work stuff for my wife and I...
I'm at a loss. I have NO idea what to do next.

perhaps some effort required but see if you can take the hard drive out and put it into another computer with a second hard drive.

In other words, if you can go to another comptuer that has an operating system loaded onto it's hard drive, see if you can install a second hard drive (this being the one with all the data you want to salvage) onto that working computer. Then you should be able to access data on the hard drive without having to go through any startup requiring passwords and the like.

When you have time... Boot your system in Safe Mode with Network (Hit F8). Visit this webpage:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Download the HijackThis program, it is small. Once you have downloaded it, run it and have it save to a log file. PM me the log file. All that McAfee, trojan remover, Norton isn't going to help you out. More than likely, there is something in the registry or a process that is set to recreate itself no matter what program you use.

After viewing the HijackThis log file, I will let you know what you should do to move on...

Okay, so I can get on here in safe mode. I'm trying to write all my work files and pics to a CD, but now that's not working either. This is nuts. It'll play an audio CD, open files from a CD-ROM (that I made or purchased), but when I put a blank CD-R in the drive, it says there's no disk present. I went to Roxio to try and format the disk, but even that program's not seeing the disk. I'll try to format it on another computer and then see if it can be recognized. If not, does anyone have any idea how I can save pics/files online or out of my computer and then re-load them after I wipe the drive?

can you put the hard drive into another computer?

drkanglr
04-06-2005, 11:22 AM
No, Al. Not an option, unfortunately. I don't know what's going on. I don't even know if I can attach files and send them out to someone to see if that would work. If I know that the files are somewhere that I can retrieve them, and intact, then I'd just do that, wipe the hard drive, and start all over.

Dude, I am not trying to flame you but the difference between McAfee anti-virus and the paid version of Ad-Aware is like night and day. I have both on my computers and they are a real help. In a lot of ways each watchdogs each other in case they come out with the software to cripple one the other will catch it.

Boys and Girls!!!! I'm Back! Holy Poo! This thing was loaded, I felt like all of my out-going info should have had a stamp on it that said "UNCLEAN". dahvaio, you've been an invaluable resource, and my many, many thanks to you.
I have been to many, many message boards since I started using a computer on a regular basis, and even more since I started playing paintball. When I finally got an Angel, I came here to see what it was all about. I have never, ever been treated unfairly here. In fact, the majority of the people that are REGULAR members of this wonderful board are some of the most helpful, polite, and genuinely kind people I have ever had the pleasure to "meet." In a time when it's sometimes very difficult to even trust the people that live across the street, I have never felt threatened or uneasy here. There will always be that 10%, the ones that slip through some times, and I have even had one deal that originated here that was less than perfect, but times like these, when real help was needed... ....I greatly appreciate it. I had similar posts on one or two other sites that got responses like, "that sucks," to "maybe you should just get a new computer."
Thanks to everyone here that makes this place special. Thanks for being people that I am proud to be associated with. There aren't enough people like that anymore.

Haven't even thought of trying that out yet. I have some better protective software on the way. Maybe I'll get back on again after that's squared away.

ok, ok, I was saving this so as not to be offensive. But now that El's taken off the gloves here goes:

Dumb

Devious

Defiant

it's sort of a matching quiz. match the services with the three words above. your choices are Army, Navy and Air Force.

Give up?

Dumb: Army

Devious: Air Force

Defiant: Navy

Anybody from the Air Force around? If not, let's make fun of them. They're an easy target...

Q: What's the first thing the Air Force does on building an new Air Force Base?

A: Choose the layout for the new golf course
(How many of you said " Layout the runway" ?
